    Better than Thibs or JVG.

I followed JVG's Rockets teams. He was an average coach.

Warriors are not going to repeat next year if they win this year. Alvin Gentry is very essential to Steve Kerr's success.

He's partially right, though the key reason will be due to players leaving/regressing.

This is a good move by the Pells. Gentry is a good offensive coach.

JVG had talent and still managed to get the most out of his players

Come on son. JVG still had Yao and McGrady, and his offense was complete .

Adelman got more out of those teams than JVG. Sorry, but JVG hasn't done crap since 1999. Very overrated coach. He's a good coach, but nothing extraordinary.

Thibs would have been better IMO, Pelicans are a horrible defensive team, their offense will come naturally, regardless, but Gentry is still a great hire..good, balanced coach that did very well with those Suns teams and has been essential to the Clippers/Warriors success..

They're really opposite coaches. Thibs is a defensive coach while Gentry is an offensive coach.

RFA in 16/17. So if he were to sign the QO in order to force a move, 17/18.

Think Kawhi's situation this year, but in 2 years.

He would take a huge risk signing a one year qualifying offer. Plus, lose a ton of money.

Outside of Mcgrady and Yao the talent level was terrible.
I will give you that, he needed someone for the offensive side of the court but, man defensive juggernaut on most nights

I know, I think the Pelicans need more of a defensive-minded coach, though, they were the 22nd ranked defense, this year..Gentry is a good hire and will continue to help them grow, but their offense was already ranked 8th, this year, despite Montyball, so even a limited offensive coach like Thibs wouldn't have been a problem IMO(he would have had much more talent in NO than he did in Chicago, too)..

Gentry seems like a great player-coach, though, apparently he's well-liked, while Thibodeau is more old-school and Tom Coughlin-like..I imagine Thibodeau's minutes allocation was a concern, too, since Davis appears to lack durability, so far in his career..

Not really. Even a savage, Paul-George-type injury, he could come back from and get a max deal. But there's barely any precedent. Monroe did this with the Pistons last season, but nobody else worthy comes to mind.

But the easy money bet is he's a Pelican until 2022, path of least resistance and most cash.

I don't see how he has more talent in NOLA outside of AD. Gordon and Evans are average at best. Anderson is soft and doesn't defend or rebound. Asik is garbage offensively. Jrue has potential but still not an upper tier PG. Honestly, looking at the advanced metrics, the Pelicans are a one man team. Asik was second on the team in win shares at 4.3 which is terrible.

all the more reason for him to leave.

I'm hoping Gentry can hire a good defensive assistant. Someone like Mike Malone who did a great job with the Hornets defense in CP3's last season with the team back in 2010-2011.
