i think i started a reply to this thread before the election on my cell but never finished posting it, now its more interesting.

Im glad the crooks are going down and they even managed to get blatter to come down which was looking impossible. But the rot comes from deep within, and the basic structure of FIFA has to change- the current rules were there largely before TV money even existed, let alone the insane amounts of today. This is a very delicate moment, and UEFA is already showing their intent to take over things, but the question is who is coke, budweiser hyundai etc has in their pocket, and the answer to that could well be: everyone (that btw is the most likely inspiration for the FBI investigation, corps fed up with bribing FIFA over and over).

FIFA has always been controlled by europeans, even Havelange was surrounded by europeans and all of their main operations are based there, yet the investigation AFAIK has only picked up stuff from the americas federations, conveniently leaving every other region off the legal hook. All 10 conmebol federation were busted, and all of those conmebol federations have long histories and established teams (not to mention represent large populations). What does that leave for the junk federations everywhere else, federations that represent a few thousand people, barely have a couple decades of existence, federations made with the sole purpose of being an extra vote to buy and sell. I've been hearing people talk about UEFA taking off on their own before blatter stepped aside, as if that were a solution. I fear UEFA- they're already balls deep with the tv money from european club football which is tv's bread and butter. Even though spending on top players keeps going higher and higher (and leagues more and more top heavy), more and more teams are facing bankruptcy, operating at huge losses, and the financial fair play rules platini and UEFA cooked up have been toothless. And platini voted FOR qatar 2022. I was looking for the specifics of platini's own scandals and came across this just posted article which runs it down:

So people are saying that South Korea and France benefited from the corruption. We all know South Korea benefited in the 2002 WC. Where was France allegedly helped?

Who knows. FIFA probably paid some French baker to supply Ronaldo with an endless supply of croissants in order to fatten him up.

The German government sent a shipment of rocket-propelled grenades to Saudi Arabia in order to secure support for their bid to host the 2006 World Cup, according to the latest sensational claims in the FIFA scandal.

German newspaper Die Zeit say the country's Football Association arranged for then-Chancellor Gerhard Schroder's administration to supply the arms in order to swing the Saudi vote from Morocco to Germany ahead of the vote in 2000.

It helped tip the knife-edge vote in Germany's favor as they defeated South Africa 12-11 in the final round and duly hosted the World Cup finals six years later.
