I don't see the Spurs even contending this year. OKC same thing.

    threat

    “It’s frustrating,” said Mike Conley.

What, you sick of losing to the Spurs, Mike?

“I’ve been sick of it,” he said, speaking for Memphians everywhere.

    ...........

“We owe those guys, those guys got our number,” said Tony Allen. “Five straight wins I believe.”

    Nine, if you’re counting playoffs.

    ...........
“Those guys are trained champions,” said Allen.

“That’s what we want to be,” said Conley.

“It’s not easy to pay the price to be like them,” said Marc Gasol.

    ........
“We’re just going to have to get back in the gym and go to work,” said Conley. “They’re a great team, they really are. But we’ll get another shot at them.”

Just a couple of wins away from Gasol deciding he wants to come to the Spurs to learn to win like them instead of trying to learn it in Memphis.

With OKC probably missing the playoffs, if the Spurs get it together and look anywhere near the level of last year's team, this will be a season similar to 2013/2010/2009/2008 where there's only 1 great team in the West IMO..if they don't, then it's wide open, and probably the weakest Western Conference(at the top) that I can remember, despite the all-around parity and depth..

Every team in the West this year has fatal flaws that prevent them from being dominant..

Memphis- weak on the perimeter, relying on Courtney Lee and ancient Vince Carter to generate offense in the playoffs
Houston- style of play hasn't translated well to the playoffs, terrible coach, questionable bench
Golden State- best player is a PG, Klay Thompson is a playoff choker, Bogut's health, rookie coach, lack of a 3rd option
Dallas- extremely weak at PG, questionable depth, average defense
Clippers- horrible wings/no perimeter defense, Jordan can't play down the stretch
San Antonio- Tony Parker killing the team
    Hmm....

Everything I wrote on that list has been correct, so far, tbh..that was written in November, too, before Parker began destroying the Spurs to a historic extent..

Not that bad, you lose and you lose. Doesn't matter if you lose to the #1 threat or the #6 threat.

The Lakers being dead last was right on though.
