Wow, what an ordeal. Glad you and your family are ok. That's what's important. The other stuff is just stuff.

And the new house you're building? It's above 100 yr flood plane, I hope.

This was pretty much a 1000 year flood on the Blanco. If it didn't get wet this time he should be fine.

Always cracks me up when people say 100 year flood and 1000 year flood. The Blanco didn't get like that when the whole San Antonio area was flooded in 1998?

No it didn't. Not even close. That was one freaky wall of water that hit the Blanco....came up like 28 feet in an hour at Wimberly.

Yeah, I think there were two 100 year floods within a 5-year span.

My thoughts exactly. When we were at the Target, and didn't know if the house would still be there, we were all actually pretty happy to have each other. I will always remember that bit, and make sure my kids don't forget that life lesson.

heh, new house was fine. As CC noted right after you, if it didn't flood this time, we are golden. The new house will just have a few wood bits of furniture with some added "character".

I'll try to post the pictures I took of the river that day and then just yesterday. The Blanco "river" is a shallow creek normally, and even dried up completely a few years back.

    Thanks. Me too.

As I said in my post, there were a lot of retirees and young families there The flood in San Marcos did not hit the wealthy side of town. I will be going back to see if they need anything. A lot of large charities and so forth are stepping into it. I can't probably offer more than the ability to run an occasional errand, but still. I will miss the neighborhood. It was a nice community.
