Knife in back?
Congrats Bud! Too bad for Ferry.
Knife in back?
Think maybe Ferry's comments that made Luol Deng upset last year may have had something to do with it, possibly?
It's a Combination of his comments and new ownership..ferry will be fine. He was a top five gm before he left.
Possibly. But if he wasn't fired when the backlash happened, then why now?
Would love for the Spurs to bring back Ferry.
Looks like Bud took a page out of Pop's book on that one.
Lol, Bob Hill is still ing about Pop.
Me too. The guy made a mistake, and paid the price deservedly so, but he has a right to make a living and is good at what he does. We could use him.
Ferry's sure to have learned from his experience, and Pop and R.C. would keep things on the straight in-house.
The report says they paid him in excess of his remaining salary. This suggests they wanted him gone. I did not read whether he was allowed to work other front office. I don't think the spurs need him but lots of teams could do worse.....Lakers?
and rightfully so.
I've read a bunch of one-sided interviews from Hill as recently as last June, accusing Pop of being underhanded and waiting for an excuse to fire him because he was dead set on being a head coach. However, I can't find anything on Pop's take on what happened. I was a teen at the time and I remember Pop saying he didn't like the defensive direction the team was in under Hill and he'd believe that since the year before when they were eliminated by the Jazz in the playoffs. He simply saw enough, regardless of Da Admiral's injury and he knew the franchise couldn't see Robinson go through his entire career without a le. Obviously, he couldn't foresee we'd land TD at the time but he wanted to set things up to where the team would be set up for the future in the best direction possible and he believed he was the right man for the job. I can't say it was downright unethical what Pop did as someone who works in the world of professional sports. At the very least, it's not as black and white like Hill would like people to believe.
Pop took the hit for the players, and I'm talking the 90s Big Three. They wanted Hill gone. He was a glory grabber when things were good, and pushed others under the bus when they didn't.
You'll also notice that Bob Hill has had virtually no career coaching in the NBA since. Eight years after the fact, he got a one and a half year interim gig with Seattle that ended with him being fired over the phone.
No. Ferry was done after the debacle, even though he did a of a job. I'd like to see Ferry back in SA. I know what he said, and I know how he meant it and SA would probably love to have him back in some capacity, but he's getting paid so he'll probably consult for big dollars by proxy.
If we take Ferry back, that all but ensures we won't be able to sign Deng when he becomes a free agent.
Who cares? Deng got burnt to a crisp playing for Thibs. The man shortens your career.
Bring him back for a year or so and then let him serve as GM of the Stars or Austin.
Ferry sucks.... And after his comments about Deng, he will never be able to sign good free agents.
