That typo ......
5 - Do you think the Spurs would have been able to beat the Warriors?
Erler: I'm ambivalent about it. I keep going back and forth. The more time passes, the more we romanticize these Spurs, I feel. On one hand, the Warriors weren't impressive at all in the Finals. I watched all the games intently and thought to myself "the Spurs could've beaten these teams," a hundred times over the course of the series. But the thing is, we're falling into the trap of thinking about them as the 2013-14 Spurs and not the 2014-15 version. Tony Parker was awful against the Clippers, Manu Ginobililooked to be on his last legs playing barely 18 minutes per game, and even Tiago Splitter was broken. It's just hard to see that crew, with the ac ulated wear and tear of two playoff rounds, beating a Warriors team that would've had home court advantage on them.
The 2013-14 Spurs? Oh they would've beaten the Dubs like they stole something from them. The Spurs we saw against the Clippers? I just can't get there.

The easy and right answer is no. We couldn't even beat the Clippers. Had the Spurs been healthy, I think they would have won it all. That didn't happen unfortunately.
PTR is at isreal gutierrez or Steph a Smith level. You can't read it, listen to it, or maintain composure when hearing about it. 100% trash
Not if Porker wasn't healthy. Relying on Kiwi gets you a first round exit.
Not quite on the Enrique bus but he would have been problematic for sure. Can't hide him anywhere. Putting him on Barnes is as big of a mismatch as one can have. He'd be giving up 6 inches and 5 pounds () too him.
The Spurs smashed GSW in their final meeting but some of that was due to the Spurs starting Bonner and Livingston being out (forcing them in to a more traditional lineup with Barbosa) the Spurs defense was much quicker on the perimeter with Bonner starting with Green and Leonard terrorizing the Warriors wings.
The Spurs were trapping and occasionally switching P&Rs involving Curry and Green. That did work pretty well, forcing Green to make a play at the basket with Duncan challenging and the other Spurs staying at home. (He drew to shooting fouls and went 2-4 from the line).
We even went small with Leonard at the 4 (something we almost never do) that could have caused some trouble for them as well.
We probably would have lost in 6 games though. There were almost unbeatable at home and the level on inconsistency the Spurs played with, makes it doubtful they could have won 3 games in S.A or 2 road games.
I agree with you.
This. Dumb talk thinking we could have beaten GSW with how inconsistent we were all season. People putting WAY too much stock in those regular season meetings.
By two points in 7 game.
Maybe people forget that the Spurs had to work hard to win against the Mavs in first round but then the team improved throughout the playoffs.
This time they didn't have the opportunity to advance to next rounds and play better, to our role players gain confidence...and we just keep the image that the loss printed in our eyes.
Injuries? Well, last season the team had injured players too and still won the ring.
I think, the Spurs could neutralize Warriors' weapons better than any team in the league.

Spurs missed a of a lot of open shots though. Shots they normally make. With that being said, I'm not sure we could have beaten the Warriors unless those shots miraculously go down.
I'm in the Warriors in 6 over the Spurs camp. I even think the Rockets could have pushed the Spurs to 7.
Doesn't matter. Why ask stupid ing questions you can never know the answer to, like this one?
DPOY calling out everybody
a pf that can shoot 3's will always give teams like the warriors and the thunder problems because Green and Ibaka can't just sit in the paint and play help defense. Green is a non factor against the spurs. They have to stay at home when we have a lineup of diaw, duncan, leonard, green, and whatever pg.. They were basically playing 5 vs 1 against lebron. Nobody could hit an outside shot. Memphis doesn't have that 4 in zbo that can hit 3's and space the floorthe pelicans have nothing, and houston should have never beat the clippers.
As everybody knows, its all about matchups.
Clippers matched up well against us. Last year the Mavs matched up well against us.
If the cir stances were that the spurs had made it to the WCF and were now in a matchup against the Warriors, yes I think they could have beaten the Warriors because in this hypothetical, we beat the Clipper and also the Rockets and more than likely we have began to play Spurs basketball and when we do that, I truly believe no one can beat us.
But thats what happens when you lose the Knicks, Pelicans (at the end of the year) and lose focus So many times. Can't believe we lost to the pistons like that. Can't even inbound the ball
TD lost us a lot of games with those lazy passes. You can even hear Walt Frazier talk about it in the broadcast for the Knicks game.
Without getting anything from TP, Splitter's injury, and Pop not doing his best coaching job it was a close 7 game series. If any of those things were corrected the Spurs should have won.
