Just because a person acts irrationally doesn't mean they are insane. He obviously understood how to use a gun, how to get to a church, how to do all the stupid little got things he does. It's not level headed to kill a group of people for the color of their skin, but it's been done for centuries even by wealthy, powerful white men and they were never considered to be insane. , some of them even helped write the Bill of Rights.
