if its a dead person i have profound respect for, i try to emulate them. i always want to be a better person, and what better way than to behave like somebody who i view is a great person
I'm not religious, nor do I deny the chance at there being a higher power of some sort.
For the athiests...do you still think about loved ones that have passed and try to make them proud and accomplish feats for them? Being that they are dead and all and there being no afterlife what would be the point?

WTF does being a believer or not have to do with how one feels about their past relatives? And why all these damn threads about religion, evolution? One avante is enough.
I could never understand what anyone gains being an atheist.
I remember when my grandpa died and how grandma..."he's in a better place now dear". And how a few years later it was..."I'm going to see David in Heaven" when she died. She really did believe that and it helped her greatly. Why would anyone..."you're just dead, ok?....why?
I'm dead serious when I say the religious people I know ar far better off than the atheists I know.
So the coach....."take a knee gentlemen"...for the pregame prayer, what ya fake it? So you're over at a relgious aunts house for whatever, she wants to say grace, what, ya just fake it?
What doesn't anyone gain with....bah humbug!!!!!!!!! There is a reason only a tiny % of people are atheists.

Show us how it's done asshole, ok?
Not really what I'm getting at. I want to know if atheists still try and make their deceased loved ones proud.
Has nothing to do with how you feel about your deceased loved ones, but if you what you do "for" them. And Avante I wish I could block people to threads.
Yes, you fake it.
you too .
Why not..."I'm not doing that"...? Cowards?
Who are your atheist heros that you try to emulate?
Cause I respect people and don't give a about their beliefs.
the people i look up to aren't necessarily atheists
oh. yes and no... i would try to act a way my grandpa would be proud of, for instance, because i know he was a good person, and if its a behavior that would make him proud, it's probably the right way to go about it... whether or not he's actually in some sort of mystery afterlife.
i mean, even if u buy into the christian afterlife, dont these dead s have anything better to do than to look down and see what their spawn is up to?
its not about gaining something. what did i gain by learning that the earth is round instead of flat?
i wish i lived in a world where there was no disease and everybody has happy. believing that i lived there would make me happy. but there's no reason to believe it to be true, regardless of "how it makes me feel inside"
It's all about how you feel inside, that is always the bottom line. Who isn't out to be as happy with their life as they can be not counting Clipper Nation of course.
what you feel inside doesn't dictate what things are like on the outside. me feeling good inside dreaming of a cancer-free world doesn't actually make it cancer free
More in line with my question thanks. I'm really just curious as to whether or not some atheists actually live life dedicating good deeds/success to a passed loved one to make them proud without realizing the hypocritic nature.
ty dream tbh as we be even more overpopulated.
A deity is not required for an afterlife.
How do you figure?
It does require a poof moment, so why not throw in a deity?
Oh.
Im not an atheist.
I should not be posting.
Pretty much, I don't treat my aunt the way I would some of the gots on this board.
You ungrateful bas
You learned about the concept of a manifold
