Well, Green should still be in your scenario. Don't think Manu changes things if he takes the small exception. Assuming Green stays (which he should) I really don't think the 26th pick no matter whet makes that C position any better. Basically if you can do all that you want (trade Splitter & Mills while keeping Green & landing LMA) than not having a 26th pick doesn't break you.
There are tons of ways things COULD work out. But those don't happen with the Spurs. They're predictable 95 percent of the time. Pop will overvalue Manu and prioritize making him happy over keeping Green. The Spurs will scrape together another two-guard in the Bogans mold. They get the best big they can with cap space (West being more likely than LMA) and they'll take a step back but people won't really notice because they'll still win 50 games. If the Spurs were really trying to maximize the value of their cap space, they would have drafted a contributor at 26. There were rotation-caliber guys still on the board, and that's essential for any plan to compete for a le next season.

Yeah, we can't freak out right now. It'll be an interesting off-season and I take Pop at face value when he said there'll be changes. We should be fine and contending as usual.

Which reporter was it who recently said the Spurs are refusing to take on any more $ through the draft. I remember reading that this week at some point.

Yes, but that always needed to be offset with a good young player. Could totally still happen, but it's just unlikely as at this point.

Projected lineup if they go all-in for LMA and keep Manu:

    Parker (maybe Mills)
    X, Ginobili
    Leonard, Anderson
    LMA, Diaw, LJC
    Duncan, abyss of suckitude

That's ... that's just too horrible to think about right now.
Your justification for your anxiety seems to be only that you cannot think of another way. Sorry that your plans didn't work out.

This doesn't change anything, Spurs still have a lot of building to do. Quit crying until you see the finished product.

I agree. For as much as the Spurs FO is praised they've missed out on some decent players the past few drafts. They've had some misses.

Aren't you a big Parker fan?
I'm more of a team fan than anything but Manu, TD, and Kawhi are my favorite players. I don't hate anybody on the team except for Ginger and Ayres.

Why do you think we'd have to lose Green, Splitter AND possibly Mills? We can still dump Splitter and sign Aldridge, if anything the $500k we saved by making this pick puts us closer to his max and more likely we won't have to lose Mills.

If the Spurs end up moving Splitter for Aldridge, he'd be the backup center in SA. That's how horrible the big-man depth is right now.
The league is moving more to small ball, we can survive playing Kawhi at the 4 for extended minutes.

Another embarrassing year from the FO. Absolutely pathetic how much they expect TD to keep carrying the front court while they continue to draft Euros that will never come over.

I disagree. I think everything is the same they just didn't like anyone they thought could be a rotational player and took someone they like. A league min guy is just as likely to contribute as the 26th pick in their minds & keeps them on the same plan.

...damn, Chinook is ready to bleed himself out over this. Calm down breh. Spurs will be fine.
The Spurs will be fine if they either keep their current roster together or make smart moves to add a star and some assets. They won't be if they let go of half their rotation to pay old-ass Manu to play 17 minutes. It really depends. But stashing the pick this year made absolutely no financial sense. It would be like walking to 10 miles work instead of taking the bus because you're saving up for a new car while still having an expensive timeshare you're still paying off.

I am somewhat surprised to see Milunitov as opposed to Hernangomez. Hernangomez has demonstrated a lot more putting up a 20+ PER in the ACB...

Still, how many teams can honestly say they have no true centers on their roster?

I'm actually content with the pick. I was already prepared for this. I figured they would pick one of Willy, Nikola, or Arturas, just overvalued the wrong one. It makes sense though. Nikola is the youngest of the three and argueably the most productive. If he was playing in the states he would have been much higher with the lack of depth in true centers. The kid is playing pro ball at 20. Good pick. Not flashy but will be good insurance post Duncan.

Hopefully at some point we can quit whinging that our best laid plans went for naught and actually address the reality of the guy the Spurs actually drafted.

We don't know how much Duncan and Manu will end up taking. It could end up being to where they don't affect the cap at all, and it could be to where they combine for $16 Million. What I do know is that the Spurs would give them what they asked for just like they did with Parker and then work around it.
