Either way him letting it be known that he really wants to play for the Lakers means the Bulls are ed....sure they can match any offer but its clear Jimmy is willing to gamble big and sign a 1 yr deal with another team (that the Bulls would be foolish to match) but if they did match all they're doing is making him the qualifying offer and he becomes an unrestricted free agent next year and walks to the Lakers for FREE....

He literally has the Bulls by the balls right now....if the Bulls were smart they'd trade him to us for Nick Young and be done with it....they literally have no options now that its clear Butler wants out...

And Pau Gasol...playing so ty he gets a coached fired and now the Bulls prized young player is dying to play in LA with Kobe...Gasol has to have all kinds of and eggs on his face....

According to Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News, Jimmy Butler is hoping for a one-year contract with the Lakers, though the Bulls are expected to match any offer he receives:

Lastly, Chicago forward Jimmy Butler hopes to take his talents elsewhere and take advantage of the new television deal after his career year coincided with Tom Thibodeau’s firing and Derrick Rose’s chemistry issues. Although Butler wants to sign a one-year deal with the Lakers, according to a league source familiar with his thinking, the Bulls are expected to match any offer for the restricted free agent.

This would be a major acquisition for the Lakers if they are able to pull it off.

Like I said..if he signs a 1yr qualifying offer the Bulls lose him for nothing....Jimmy had a rough upbringing and he's the kind of kid willing to bet on himself and take the Bulls qualifying offer thus making himself an UFA next summer..he does this the Bulls literslly get nothing in return..there best bet is to take what the Lakers will give them...which is Nick Young and maybe a future pick..they have no choice now...it's their fault...Butler doesnt like Rose....him coming to LA with Aldridge this summer wohld be major JUST MAJOR

b... But nobody wants to play for Lakers
Landing Butler would be even bigger than Landing LMA in my view....Butler needs to go ahead and just bust this wide open and tell the Bulls he's leaving regardless..he was on Sports Nation playing COY recently and he's been hanging out in LA all summer...he wants to play for us badly....why should we give up anything significant when we will get him next year for free if he indeed signs the 1 yr qualifying offer....

LA is still and will always be an attractive destination for such players who're one or two tiers below the range of stars imho. Supposedly such players get more attention playing in LA than anywhere else, and get rewarded in financial forms accordingly, and maybe in other forms as well (fine sports pussies like Sharapova, for example).

Won't matter, Bulls won't let him leave. Lakers need to put the pipe down and focus on realistic targets. Marc aint coming and Bulls wont let Butler walk he is their version of "kiwi"... plus it looks as Cubes is going full max on Deandre. Even Love is doubtful ... Need a 3 and D guy. IF Rox want to let Ariza walk so they can chase LMA... sign Ariza or Danny green and sign Tyson. Neither are sexy but both are former champs that can teach our young guys how to compete. Both are local guys that you could convince to maybe give a "slight" discount. Neither would be scared of Kobe or shrink from Scott's task master style practices ...unless we sneak in to the top 3, we lose our pick. So might as well add some vets that are about winning that wont break the bank and will alleviate pressure on the rooks PLUS those are 3 of the best defenders available. Save the big $ for the REAL big fish. Let Cubes, Phil, Doc and Morey fight for the overpriced stars ...

    Chicago will match.

The problem is the Lakers will offer him a 1 yr deal....we have 0 incentive to help the Bulls out....they can only sign him for 1yr and when they do he will give minimal effort until the 1 yr is up..either the way if he signs 1 yr the Bulls are ed..they get nothing in return....

Start PMing your Laker buddies about how you are comparing Butler to Jordan and cheese every one off, then somehow twist it into meaning you never wanted Butler to begin with.

    Do it Capri

Chicago shouldn't have fired Thibs. The Bulls players loved him, unfortunately, management didn't. Made Rose an MVP. Gasol had his best year statistically in like 4 years. Basically coached and developed Butler. Coached Noah to be one of the best bigman in the league defensively.

This firing equates to the Harbaugh firing w San Fran. Look at all the players that left or flat out retired. Bulls management only have themselves to blame for Butler wanting to leave.

that may be true but you let a winning coach (reg season) walk for a guy past his prime? That's on the Bulls FO ...

But I think Pau is just the excuse ... that FO didnt want TT they just needed a reason ...

& should be. The latter couldn't cross the half court line without hesitating there, then hopping over so he wouldn't break his mother's back. The former? A Spanish royal piss pot. He'd a been the goods for you though. You missed that one. Can you imagine Pau quittin' on Pop like he quit on D'Antoni & TT consecutively? No. Pop woulda beat him within an inch of his life.
