true - but with monroe, you probably get someone else too.
Either way you look at it. Tiago for LMA or Monroe+1 = super deal for spurs. Take that with Spurs have Green/KL for 4 more years together - I would rather have Millsap though.
he's a great plan b, but without splitter is it wouldn't be any upgrade so now that we made that trade, we need lamarcus and cojo needs to resign.

If it's Monroe, all the Spurs did was lower their 2 year celing while taking on more money for their PF spot (bc Monroe won't be 8.5M like Splitter).
Spacing would be even worse than Tiago/Tim with Monroe especially bc he doesn't have the passing ability of Tiago, screening ability or familiarity with the system.
He's an ok play player - poor mans Al Jefferson, but not someone worth giving up your 2 year window for.
Of course it makes sense to leak that Monroe is plan B if that is what Portland is pitching Aldridge, along with extra guaranteed year.
Yeah, you don't trade splitter to get monroe. guy can't pass.
best option is Draymond Green... or even better ... Marc Gasol. Both can shoot beyond 10 feet and can pass.
Hmm. Good point.
Blake Griffen :-)
1. FO would not throw splitter and his contract out of the door without a plan in place
2. Splitter's recent lingering injuries are nothing SA wants to deal with
3. Splitter is ONLY effective with another, better, big on the team - he couldn't be the Spurs #1.
4. Spurs operate for the good of the organization - there is no reason to think otherwise.
Glad he's gone. Interested in seeing the results of this.
I think it was my fault for bringing it up in another thread. I saw that talks broke down and assumed he was UFA. Damn.![]()
Guess is that absent some free agent commitment, they view what they got back from Hawks as equal value.
All they got was cap space. That is not equal value unless the cap space lands you a piece that is better in the short-term (hopefully long-term too) than Tiago.
LMA I still think has a good shot to choose SA, but if he doesn't, it will be a shocker (unless it's POR he chooses) and pretty risky by SA for what Tim needs to compete for a ring.
Value would be intl player draft rights plus pick(s).

Yahoo Sources: Two small market teams have made significant inroads in the pursuit of free agent Greg Monroe: Milwaukee and Portland.
Woj reporting that Portland and Milwaukee are going after Monroe.
Wouldn't be terrible, but his defensive deficiencies are scary..
What's Don Harris' email? I want to confirm TSpence's report tbh
You can't say the Spurs FO isn't doing all it can to revamp the Spurs on the fly. A for effort at the very least.
I don't like the idea of hoping these guys (LMA/Monroe) will start playing defense. I hope I'm wrong but we thought the same thing with RJ.
For the sake of LMA (and Spurs) we should hope Monroe goes to somewhere soon other than POR.
All in Aldridge. I dont like monroe
Do they even have a meeting with him?
The Spurs don't need defense just more offense. That's why they're going after LMA.
you've obviously never seen Monroe play. I've watched him since Georgetown.
we won a le with bonner, parker, and bellineli not playing any defense.
Backup plan is now David West, and possibly Roy Hibbert who can still opt out of his contract.
