I hate the fact that we had to offload Splitter as without him I don't think the Spurs would've sniffed the Finals in recent years. Sucks he couldn't stay healthy but his pick and roll defense will be sorely missed.

I shudder at the Spurs big man rotation defensively moving forward, but hard to turn down an all star big man.

All the best to Splitter, hopefully he finds his way back in the silver and black one day.

I never understood why people write here like they are talking to the player, who's actually going to read... no he won't, who are you talking to????

He will be missed and I appreciated what he accomplished as a Spur despite some of his flaws. It was a necessary evil, though, but I'm glad he went to the best place possible: Spurs East.

He was good, I'm happy he was here and a champion. Spurs will miss him, no matter who they sign. And if they strike out in free agency, they'll really miss him.

IIRC, there was a game where Coach Bud filled in for Pop and the Spurs won because he called pick-and-roll with Splitter like literally 50% of the plays. I want to say it was against the Rockets.

But, yeah, if healthy Splitter is going to be very good for the Hawks. Coach Bud is going to run soooo many pick-and-rolls with four shooters spacing the court. It'll be difficult to stop, tbh.

tbh, can the Spurs roll back the trade if LMA doesn't pan out? IMO, it's interesting not a lot of details have come out about this particular trade...

Pleased for him that he was dealt to probably the next best situation in the league for him. Even if Millsap stays, he still figures to play roughly the same minutes, too.

That said, I get that the Hawks did the Spurs a favor, but let's not lose sight of the fact that the Spurs did them one too. This is a valuable player, in his prime, on a good value contract. In other words, they better have gotten something decent in return, especially when you consider that they're going to need all the inexpensive, young talent they can get to fill out the roster going forward.

This reminds me of back when Splitter was coming off the bench and Zach Lowe was having paroxysms over how the Splitter/Bonner/Manu bench unit was putting up points at a record pace.

Man, pick and rolls with splitter and having all that space due to Korver ...

Hawks are going to wreck the east, spurs got straight up victimized and humiliated if there aren't great picks coming back

The difference Splitter made is demonstrated by three things -- (1) that Memphis series in '11 when Splitter wasn't used, (2) everything that happened after that when he joined the rotation, until (3) this year when he was injured for the First Round.

Perfect bookends for the Spurs' run with Mr. Splitter, the underappreciated interior anchor. Simple as that.
    amen!

The man earned his ring. Who knows how good the Spurs could have been if he'd been allowed to play from the start. At least he goes to a team where I can still root for him. Happy trails, tall dude.

Was Splitter drafted late because teams didn't like his buyout, or because teams knew he didn't want to come over?

A little of both. The Spurs screwed themselves a bit because the rookie scale applies to first rounders only. They figured he was worth the wait even though it cost them a year by drafting him when they did.

Personally, I think Bud is holding out on the final paperwork as long as he can until the Spurs know what they need.

Splitter was crucial to the resurgence of the Spurs in 2012 and beyond. His defence was a thing of beauty. Thanks for the grit, and good luck with the Hawks.

He'll got to a team that will actually use him properly. Good thing we sent him to the East because he will be a tough guy to go against for most of our bigs and the bigs we're thinking of getting.

Splitter was an ideal Spur. A team player, play his role very well. He just wasn't able to stay healthy, unfortunately. Thanks Splitter and wish you a good career in Atlanta.
