What would be the incentive for Brooklyn? Why trade 1 yr $25m of Joe Johnson for 4 yrs $45m of a broken down Varejao?

Man, Dan Gilbert is gonna be paying mad luxury tax for years to come...
Paying tax money, but how much is Gilbert making off of having Lebron in the fold?

I can understand why he's going nuts as well. How many times do you get a player like Lebron? He wants that championship and he's willing to pay out the wazooo for it.

To lighten there own tax bill / repeater tax.

They waive Haywood which clears up 10 mill or so.

Nyets ed themselves so bad. No draft picks. Over priced and over the hill players.

Yikes.... Cavs look scary with Joe Johnson as an addition.
if cavs get johnson, then spurs need west to beat them, imo

if Cavs get Johnson, cavs may really push hard to get West. Cavs would have more money to pay him and I think he's from Ohio. Cavs just coming from the finals would meet his criteria of wanting to play for a winning team.

Anybody know if Adam Silver is going to do anything about the playoff seedings? Or are sub .500 teams like Brooklyn and Boston going to continue making the playoffs...

They've already changed it. Conferences will be ranked based on best 8 teams. Winning your conference no longer gets you a top 4 seed.

So it's basically the same except for the "Division leader is a Top 4 seed" BS? I guess I'll take it.

Really wanted Silver to take away the conferences and make the playoffs be the best 16 teams.

Pretty much. I think to do more than that gets complicated in terms of scheduling, etc. If you remove conferences, then you can't have conference teams playing each other 4 times, etc. It'll just continue to skew the win totals for really weak east teams.

I think LeBron told him that paying the luxury tax would be a condition of him signing. I think Gilbert would willingly pay the tax if it means bringing a le to the Cavs. If he wants to recoup his luxury tax payments, he can probably sell the Cavs for a billion dollars.

Yahoo Sources: As Lakers work to clear cap space to sign free agents and absorb HIbbert, Nick Young is a strong candidate to be unloaded.

It is still possible the Lakers could include a player to Indiana in the Roy Hibbert trade, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Confirm Brandon Bass agreement w/Lakers (@SpearsNBAYahoo first). Contract terms pending other LA moves. Lakers do have room exception.

I just saw that come across the NBA TV banner and thought it was a misprint.
