Nobody signs till the 9th. Splitter gets traded on condition that Tavares gets signed for 1.5m. Tavares signs but it isn't done until the 9th, just like Spitter's deal. Tavares contract gets traded to Spurs on the 9th in exchange for Splitter dump.
That's not how it works. If Tavares signs any contract with the Hawks he can't be traded for months.

    Chumpdumper is a...
...guy who knows Tavares can't be traded after signing an initial contract.

Though I believe it is 30 days for a draft pick, not several months.

Is an initial contract different than the actual contract?

Chump, is it months, or 30 days? Thought it was 30 days for rookies, three months for all others.

Yeah, I edited it above. 30 days for a guy like Tavares.

Initial meaning first contract. It's an actual contract.

So he signed his contract before the ninth?

Actually, he may have. I have to check the rules on signing draft picks. It should be considered a done deal regardless.

No, he has agreed to a sign a contract just like all the Spurs who have decided to come back. It's a done deal.
All indications seem as if The Hawks are keeping Tavares. It's a done deal like the Splitter deal. Done in all respects except the actual contract hasn't been signed.

Since it looks like it's more than a second round tender deal, they'll have to wait til the moratorium is over.

There is no reason to think Tavares is going to be on any team other than the Hawks.

Not if he signs any contract with the Hawks,

Right, but he hasn't signed a contract, so he could. And, even if the contract had been signed already, it has been whittled down to 30 days, not months. So, ceperez's unlikely scenario is just unlikely, not impossible. Got it.

So we have only two ballhandlers on the team, TP and an old man Manu ...

This is a problem esp in todays basketball where GS made it a real problem for others

When he signs a contract with the Hawks, it will be quite impossible to include him in the Splitter trade.

Even if the Spurs could hypothetically match that, there's no way in I would do it. Joseph is a useful player but he's not that great of a fit on the Spurs. With the current offensive system, the PG has to be an offensive threat in order to force the defense to engage. When Joseph was on the court, defenses got away with "playing the play" when he had the ball and sagging off when he didn't.

Joseph is a great energy player who had gotten really good at finishing. But he's never going to be a pure outside shooter and he's sub par as far as playmaking goes.

But congrats to him. Another great selection by the FO in the draft. Well done.
    Well said.

If he signs, he won't be able to be traded to any team for 30 days.

Well, you said when. You said months. You said he couldn't be traded, implying he had already signed. After editing a post and being corrected about months vs. 30 days, and accepting "if" instead of when, everyone seems to be in agreement.

For someone that's a stickler for details, I am sure you appreciate those.
