Glad all the Spurs games at the Utah Summer League are 6 pm CST and later, have time to get back from work to watch.
Wel...its not.

Doesn't Livio play for the team Tony owns? Tbh he should just let the buyout slide since he's likely to be overpaid on his new extension.
Did not know that. One of the things I missed about you being gone is that you saw a lot of things in the CBA that I didn't. I don't see where the contract is still guaranteed after three years, though. So the Spurs could give him a $4M/3 deal but with none guaranteed rather than a $5M/4 with about $2 Million guaranteed.
LJC was drafted in 2013. So the third year would be this coming season. Do Spurs have his draft rights even after this season?
Yeah. But next year, they aren't bound by the rookie scale anymore. That's usually a good thing, but it's not in this case if they don't even want him as a 15th man this year and he can't get playing time at ASVEL.
Brilliant.
Another one of your theories. We all saw how that went tonight.
Really liked what I saw from Bertans, he has 1 job and he doesn't deviate from it
Yeah. I still don't see where it says the contract has to be guaranteed.
Well if a team can sign a three year contract with no guaranteed money at all, I haven't seen it.
Like you said before, it was reaching Protocol 10 at one point
I think it does say that the contract should not be fewer than 3 seasons and 120% greater than rook scale. I gather that means its guaranteed for at least 3 years.
I don't see why they can't. People sign three- or four-year deals with only a couple hundred thousand guaranteed, which is way less than the $2 Million the rookie scale would offer LJC. And those players usually have the right to sign a one-yer tender, but LJC would only have that offered that type of contract with no alternative.
I definitely don't think it means that. It certainly wouldn't leave that so vague.
I would say it's a gray area. In theory, you're right and a team could pay less guaranteed money after 3 years using a contract with multiple non-guaranteed years. Now, the intent of the CBA is clearly that after 3 years players can be paid more. Proposing a non-guaranteed contract to potentially pay less is against that intent. It isn't allowed to go against the intent of the CBA.
If one day a team try to force a first round pick to sign that kind of contract after 3 years overseas, I'm not sure the NBA would allow it. NBPA might also protest against it.
At the end, I don't think that "Spurs might screw me with some a tricky-never-seen contract next year" will be a factor for LJC future.
Same here.![]()
Haha. No probably not. I'll concede the point. Still don't see LJC staying, though. The Spurs totally have the roster space to carry him and already have the cap space earmarked for him. He can develop on the fly, because his defense already give him a role on the Spurs. If what happened today is anywhere near his normal level of play, Anderson may have to fight to get a rotation spot. The bench needs a defender more than a playmaker with Manu back, and with West and Diaw manning the front court, LJC should be able to get away with playing in the paint on offense and on the perimeter on defense.
Welcome back Bruno, you were missed.
Welcome.....to the greatest sports forum in the World.
For those that have seen LJC play before or are familiar with his skill set, is that all he has to offer offensively? Or has he shown flashes of a developing offensive game at points? Do you think he could develop at least into an average offensive player? He is obviously never going to be a world beater offensively, but he has huge defensive upside.
He's 6'9" and keep in front of guards. That's got to be worth something.
Exum going to the lockerroom with ankle injury
How's LJC skill set in the paint on offense? Can he consistently get to the basket? Oh and just wanted to say, quality posts from Bruno and Chinook that led to other solid posts from others here. Good to see.![]()
I thought Lalanne had a much more rounded game... especially since he was matched against Okafor...
But it's just one game, can't draw a lot of conclusions yet.
