I can only think of 3 types of marriages between consenting adults: straight, gay, and poly. Polygamy has a long history in this country, so it's not unexpected that this battle will be fought in courts now. I can't really come up with a good argument against it, assuming all parties are consenting adults.

Seems like the guys in polygamous religious cults get access to the youngsters, esp the step-youngsters. Apart from that, legalizing poly-amory into polygmous marriage doesn't phase me. The lawyers would love it.

I'm sure the Bible humping grifters will cherry pick "God's Own Word" to rouse their rabble with anti-polygamous bull , ignoring, as God His Own Self did, 10s if not 100s of polygamous and concubine-screwing dudes in the OT, some at the very top of Bible hierarchy.

Everybody with a brain saw this coming. There is no logical reason not to legalize it now.

Well the argument can be made that there is no ins utional inequality for polygamists because any individual polygamist is free to marry one other consenting adult. You can live with as many people as you want, you can call as many people your spouse as you want, but the state will recognize only one spouse.

    So pick a favorite.

What is the logical reason for government to be involved in marriage in the first place?

So no real logical reason. All this can be done without the legal designation of spouse.

All the things you listed can be one without the legal designation of spouse. It causes more problems than it solves.
