I don't know about you, but I couldn't tell them apart seeing them on the court. LaLanne may be taller but not by much, and LJC's athletic advantage definitely makes him seem like a higher-ceiling defender. LJC also has the advantage is mobility, which means helping in PnR defense better than LaLanne likely. That's a huge need with Splitter gone.

But they should both make the team, so this is moot.

You really think this happens? I can see LJC making the team for all the reasons you just mentioned but I can't see LaLanne making this team this year.

I actually think Ayres may be a consideration. He actually played better the last third of the year, knows the system, could be had for the minimum.
Bonner is your 'corporate knowledge' token guy.

Livio Jean-Charles has has more length, hops and quickness compared to Ayres. He's coming in with a rookie salary less than $1m per.

Not sure if Lalanne will accept a draft and stash, he's still raw and needs at least a year to get his technique down. The team though needs backup centers, so maybe it may be worth the risk.

    As it stands today:

    Parker / Mills / <???>
    Green / Ginobili / <Eddie>
    Leonard / Anderson / <Prince>
    Aldridge / Diaw / <LJC>
    Duncan / West / <Bonner> / <Lalanne>

5 slots till open... will Spurs add youth? Where will Spurs find a serviceable center?

It's all about what he wants to do. I think he's good enough to get into camp and get a couple of d-league call ups. He may not want to go overseas. I think he makes more sense than getting another old big.

Still could be compensation for Splitter . . .

    (Okay, I'm a dreamer.)
    No, he can't.

Does anyone here have the scoop on Amare's chances of being signed here or any serviceable PG to back up Parker? Amare's about the dumbest pro player I've ever watched, but if he signed for vet min. then that would probably be the smartest thing he's ever done.

Amare doesn't have anywhere near the athleticism he once had. Pass.

I'm not seeing many backup Center options out there. What are we thinking there Spurs fans?

    Kendrick Perkins?
    Cole Aldrich?
    Nazr Mohammed! haha lol
I could live with Kendrick Perkins....for a few minutes . Still in his prime, good post defender, and going to finally play for a good coach in over five years. Needs to keep his together though.

Cole Aldrich would be another nice player. Seems like a good kid, good defender/rebounder, high basketball IQ, has a nice little post up hook shot. Small sample size though, and played on a horrible Knicks team, but being the 11th pick in the draft you must have shown something. Not very athletic either but I think he can do everything Baynes can do or even better.

Dalembert wouldn't be a bad pick up also. Nazr Mohammed .

Cole Aldrich would be ideal and seems like the kind of fundamentally sound "nice guy" the Spurs would be interested in. Not very athletic, but has a good feel for the game and is definitely good enough to be a backup C at the end of the bench. I think he might be just a tad out of our price range at this point though.

Did you not know that Perkins was on the bench for the Cavs. Despite having a depleted lineup, he never played a single minute in the playoffs.

    He is pretty much done.

At his stage of his career, he's not going to take the veteran minimum. Not likely unless nobody else signs him.

I think Spurs aren't going to sign Bonner until they've exhausted all options with other vets. Same thing happened last year.

Well it's not like we have a lot of choices of big men in the first place tbh..

Outside of Pau Gasol the Cavs never really played a big man with a post presence, they were of course fortunate to have two very good big men defenders in Mozgov and Thompson.

We need someone else that can body up the Dwight's, and Gasol's of the division, and conference.

    Dalembert (Depth)
    Bonner (same)
    Lalanne
    LJC
    Prince

    2 PG
    2 SG
4 SF (KL, Slo-Mo, Prince, LJC
4 PF (LA, Boris, West Bonner)
3 C (Duncan Dalembert and Cady)

vet roster with some prospects on the back end of the roster, not to old and not to young.

Kyle's a slow man in a quick man's game. He isn't going to ever be a backup for this team at the NBA level. He'll play out his time in Austin and then quietly go overseas (unless some dumb team like Detroit decides to give him $30 mil like they did Baynes).
I guess you and ceperez misunderstood me. I was talking about Livio.

Gerald green would be a phenomenal pick up but I don't see him signing for he min. Tayshaun Prince would be a great back up 3 for defense purposes at this point.
Tayshaun can't shoot. Remember how the Grizzlies got swept in 2013?

I would pretty much despise Perkins on this team, but if he's the best available (in our price range), I wouldn't be surprised by the move tbh. He's from Texas too.

Reggie Williams will make the team and presumably takeover the Belinelli role.

I would rather bring Mulitnov over and let him develop, than have the old, surly and offensively useless Perkins on the team.
