Spurs reportedly have interest, may have been a plan had Ginobili not opted to return. Still, an intriguing name.
He's actually one of the better immediate Belinelli replacements out there. I'd certainly prefer him over the other Butler.
Damn dude is 36? Guess not bad for what's out there

Seriously: what can the Clippers do if/when Cuban shows up at Jordan's door? Tell DJ not to answer the bell? Turn the TV up real loud?
For a moment, I thought Jackie Butler? lol.
Oh god lol. For the first several months of 2009-10 I literally mistook DeJuan Blair for that guy, tbh...
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I used to be an Oklahoma City Hornets season ticket holder when he was a member of that team (2005-2007) and I always love him on that team. I've watched this guy a LOT and have advocated for him several times on Spurstalk over the years actually as his name has come up more than once. At this point though I'm not sure what hes got left. I haven't seen him play much recently. That being said, he would have been an amazing get for us 8 years ago. He won't make waves and he'll play his role to the letter. Fortunately, hes not a player that relied on amazing athletics to get the job done. Hes a shooter - and shooters tend to age more gracefully. If he has much left in the tank then he might be a very nice addition.
We might be the oldest NBA team of all time if we fill the last 2 spots with old veterans![]()
i don't think Butler gets away from the Wizards. Glen Rice Jr. and Otto Porter couldn't outshine his contributions, last season.
The team would have 3 players under 30 in the starting lineup including the best player being under 25 (not to mention Patty being 26) thus that is overstated. The 2008 Celtics had a bunch of guys over 30 & the young guys (Perkins/Rondo/Tony Allen) were just role players but that didn't stop them from winning 66 games then stomping the Lakers/Cavs. Pop is going all in for this upcoming season & will reload next summer when the cap space becomes available to sign role players.
They traded for Jared Dudley & signed Alan Anderson not to mention Otto Porter played well in the postseason.
Michael Scotto @MikeAScotto Source: San Antonio Spurs have expressed interest in free agent forward Rasual Butler. He shot 39% from 3PT range last season in Washington.
Could be a Maggette type add to training camp roster if there is continuous interest.
David West and Butler potentially being teammates a third time.
LaMarcus has turned 30, so, not so much.
I'm just done with old role players.
There are a lot of questions mark at SG/SF for Spurs with Anderson, Simmons and Fredette. Having as a safety net in case they suck would make some sense.
Now, there is a financial commitment behind that. Even if you sign Butler for a training camp contract, Spurs signing him means that they are ready to cut Fredette at the end of the TC if he sucks. Cutting Fredette will cost $1.27M to Spurs ownership because of his guarantee and the luxury tax. Provided the ownership is fine with that loss, I don't see a major drawback with signing Butler.
I suspect the only reason Butler didn't sign long ago, was that he was holding out for a fully guaranteed contract and they were unwilling to go more than half, at most. At this late date though, if he could have gotten a full, he'd have signed somewhere by now.
Fredette getting the half, was seen as a virtual guarantee that they'd keep him up until his full date, but maybe it was just the cost of signing him and they were either intrigued enough by him, not intrigued enough by other options or a combination of both and didn't want to risk him going elsewhere.
