Yes, on a normal day Pop would rest his guys and tank some games during the season but if he wants home court advantage he needs to win more games. He wouldn't want to play a crucial game 7 in Oakland I guess. If the Spurs pile up enough depth it wouldn't be impossible for him to win some games even with key players rested, like the Warriors whose 2nd unit would beat any non-playoff team from the East.
