I know. Dudes not just a transitional form on the court.
That's what happens when you don't have your agent present you ing re . How did Jordan not get that fifth year when he had Rivers bent over a barrel?
I know. Dudes not just a transitional form on the court.
And a trade kicker but not a no-trade clause.
I think he always wanted a 4 year deal with a 3rd year PO. He wants to sign one last max while he's still young (at age 29 or so)
If anyone pays this guy max when he's on the wrong side of 30.![]()
After the debacle this offseason and with the cap projected to explode into kingdom come (already at $70 mil next year) I wouldn't even be surprised.
This. It's worth the gamble for him he still has $88 mill and could potentially get another max like S&H said ...
Not only that but when you take California state income tax into effect, he loses money on the deal.
What team, outside of Sacramento, is going to want to have anything to do with this guy when he hits free agency again? A gentleman's agreement with him isn't worth .
In a few years when he hits the market again, nobody will care if he's still playing at a high level. If some team is one big time defensive center away from a le, they'll definitely take the risk.
Time heals all wounds especially when somebody is an all star caliber player. Who here thought Lebron would ever go back to Cleveland after the fiasco 5 years ago?
Really? Teams are going to line up to give Jordan huge money once his athleticism goes into free fall? If there is anyone in the league who is going to age badly, it's the guy who can't shoot free throws, has low BBIQ, and only makes it in this league because of his jumping ability.
I agree with Baseline. He relies too much on athleticism like Dwight. For basketball reasons, I believe this is the last max deal he's getting.
Also, I don't care how good he is. As a GM, how do I know that my verbal agreement with him during the moratorium period translates into a signed contract? The Mavs are absolutely ed here because so many players went off the board while their cap space was tied to DAJ for 5 days.
You guys are both probably right. When his contract runs out, his athleticism will probably have a noticeable decline.
Just saying hypothetically, if he’s still playing at a high level, nobody will really care too much about this fiasco in a few years if they think he’s the missing link.Rules will probably be different by then and teams will do a little more probing with him. They’ll probably think “Oh, it happened to Cuban but it won’t happen to us!”
I've heard some people say that nobody will ever want to deal for him again after this, which I disagree with.
Im with BUMP here all the venom spewed now wont matter if he is good in 3 years. Remember he also has a player opt out after year 3 so he will only be 29 Aldridge just got a max at a similar age. But Im sure Clips will be the one signing him anyways ... yes he has a low IQ and relies on hops more than LMA but I bet he gets a contract close to this one ... maybe for less years like Tyson got from PHX.
GM's are always going to overpay. It's been established for quite a while now tbh. Jordan doesn't have to do much. As long as he blocks and rebounds at his current pace, teams will always pay a hefty premium for that work.
S&H is right these dumb ass owners who just paid Reggie Jackson $80 million? Oh Deandre will get paid again if he stays healthy.
I don't care if he plays like Shaq in his prime the next three years. If he makes a verbal agreement during the moratorium period, what assurances do you have that translates to a signed contract?
I remember people talking about Reggie Jackson a month after he was traded to Detroit. That was also the time the Pistons's lost 10 straight games with Jackson shooting an abysmal 30% on the field in this stretch. Casuals were throwing out numbers like 4 years $50 million is all he's going to get. Well, we all know the rest.
You don’t but if he’s truly the missing piece for a le, somebody will take the chance. At worst, he leaves another team with their pants down but they’re not that much worse off than before. At best, he becomes the missing piece and the team goes on to contend.
Plus, there’s going to be a rule change I’m sure and owners are going to figure out a way to be more diligent with Jordan after he pulled this stunt.
Aldridge has an old man game though, and Chandler has always been a great defender, not a high jumping shot blocker. I can't see the comparison with either of them to Jordan. Jordan is the bigman version of Gerald Wallace, there is nothing about his game that makes me think he'll be any good in his thirties.
You can't compare Jordan to Aldridge. Aldridge actually has basketball skill and doesn't rely entirely on athleticism.
I'm surprised this hasn't happened before. Probably they're going to change the moratorium period so that teams can ink a player immediately following a verbal agreement.
I agree it wont stop him from getting paid though ...Rondo got 9 million after a ty year with you guys so Denadre if he stays close to third team all NBA cant get twice that with a cap increase looming? You guys underestimate owner stupidity.
Who'd be surprised if DJ didn't even know he could sign a full 5-year contract worth $30+ mil more with the Clippers without his agent around to hold his hand and remind him to breathe in and out?
Lol thinking they were his friends while they're screwing him over. Good I hope that does lose money.
