Cuban needs to embrace a full rebuilding project ..It is clear that Nowitzki era is over..He just keep throwing stuff at the wall and seeing if something sticks; and never did for 4 years now whether in Free agency or veteran pluggin..Now is the time to work through the draft and hope a couple of years from now the West compe ion gets diluted..
Let's see what type of $$ and years he signs for in Dallas after a buyout. I don't want the two years and $43 mil remaining on his deal. As long as this doesn't up future flexibility, he's better than Devin Harris. I like the Zaza move since we didn't give up anything of consequence for him. Our pick in next year's draft goes to Boston unless it's top 7. Going to have to bite the bullet on that one sometime, might as well be next year and get it over with.

I know the "right" thing to do is tank, but Cuban can't do that to Dirk. Dirk is too loyal to asked to be traded. So if that's the case, even though tanking is better for the franchise, you have to do what you can to help win as many games now for Dirk. At least for the next two years.

CROFL, Williams is owed $43 million over the next two years. How can he possibly think he's going to get released from Brooklyn when owed that kind of money?
    Must be nice...

Because if the team can't find a trade partner, the goal then shifts to saving as much as possible. If Dwill gives up 10M of his guaranteed money, that translates close to 20M in savings for BKY. Plus, if he gives up 10M, plus Dallas has to bid on him and let's say 5M is the winning bid, that comes off for BKY too.

Depends on how much BKY wants to save money vs how much they think Dwill can help them.

There's really no incentive to tank next year. They won't be good, but I'm not sure they'll be so bad that they'll end up being able to keep their pick. Might as well dilute the value of the pick going to the Celtics. The West is so stacked that I see 7 teams as locks for the playoffs assuming full health: Warriors, Spurs, Thunder, Grizzlies, Clippers, Rockets, Pelicans (Davis is such a beast). They'll be fighting it out with the Suns and Jazz for the 8 seed. Still, a compe ive team that can win 40-some odd games is valuable to the bottom line in terms of home attendance.

Why did anybody consider this old sport a top point guard?
Some Jerry's Kids on the forum swore up and down he was the best PG in the league.

Like 3-4 years ago the debate everyone was having on sports forums was who was the best point guard in the nba... Chris Paul, or Deron Williams. They both signed new contracts and went downhill from there.

    From David Aldridge:

So this is how the Deron Williams would potentially work for both sides: Williams is due around $43.3M for the last two years of his contract (2016-17 is a player option at $22.3M, which he obv would exercise). If he and the Nets agree on a buyout, the buyout amount, whatever it is, becomes his cap number for the 2015-16 season. But Brooklyn would then use the stretch provision on Williams (he is eligible b/c his new deal came after the last CBA was adopted in 2011). If the Nets use the stretch on Williams this season they can stretch the new buyout number over five seasons. If they wait until 2016-17 to do so they can only stretch it out over three seasons, which is why there's incentive for the team to do it now. For example (this is NOT the amount; this is just an example to explain), if Williams & agent agreed to a $30M buyout of the last two years, Williams's cap number for '15-'16 becomes $30M. That gets stretched by the Nets over five years, for a $6M cap number for Williams for each of the next five seasons, starting in '15-'16, through '19-'20. That's a $15M reduction in his cap number for this season, which would give Brooklyn a chance to get under the $84.7M tax threshold for next season by waiving some non-guaranteed players for next season (Brooklyn is currently around $102.5M in salaries for next season, including the non-guaranteed players). And the cap number for Williams for 2016-17 would go down by $16M, giving the Nets significantly more cap room to go after free agents like Kevin Durant. Williams would then be free to sign with Dallas as an unrestricted free agent--for an amount that would presumably make up the money he gave up with the Nets, and allow him to be free in the summer of '17. (H/T Eric Pincus of the L.A. Times and Basketball Insiders, who stays on top of the actual salary numbers as well as anybody.)

Dude has to be top 5 in the Most En led category of the league. He hasn't been relevant since his days in Utah, but he still acts like a max player who demands max money and max attention.

Face it Deron Williams...you suck now and nobody wants you.

Deron is a Dallaser in heart and for that alone we should sign him imho. And I agree with Findog, there'll still be one or two playoff spots open for compe ion next season, and if a marginal playoff team chooses to tank it should be Suns or Jazz, but not us.

He is the 2nd highest paid player in the league behind Kobe. What a pair!
