Marjanovic was a big time prospect when he was young. He dominated a player like Ajinça when they were 18 years old. He went undrafted because he was awfully slow and in poor shape. He worked a lot on his body over the years to reach the level he is today.

It's a really nice gamble for Spurs. He isn't just a big guy, he is a talented basketball player. If he can adapt to the rhythm of the NBA, he will be a huge steal.
A good team fit, with the Spurs likely to run more sets specifically to get their posts midrange, it means the center won't go out as far to set picks.

How is it that no team in the NBA had gotten around to offering him? Seems like lots of teams could use a backup like him.
Scouting. I'm sure many teams knew about him due to his profile and accolades, but not every team scouts (especially) internationally as well as SA.

His post defense is pretty good, especially at his salary.

It's his help defense that suffers because of his speed. But he will defend Memphis types pretty well.

    And will DESTROY Big Baby.

He is such a step up from Baynes on offense.
I believe you since you are a strong advocate of his. Wow to go from Baynes and Ayres to West and Boban.

I know he knows Russian. He may have picked up some Serbian from his relatives... who knows.
Think he knows six different languages to include Serbian.

cool... looking forward to his signing. His stats confirm that he's made a lot of improvements. Besides, you don't win MVP awards for just being big.

Regardless, considering the 4 bigs in the playoffs rotation are probably set in stone, you probably couldn't do better for a 5th big/situational big..

Last year's 5th big was Bonner/Ayres, for instance..
    excellent point

I'm sure he came keep up with the likes of Gasol and Bogut. He's big enough to sap the energy out of a lot of other centers.

Pop is going to come up with certain kinds of plays where he's going to be screening guys at the block.
