Currently Spurs only have 40 year old Tim Duncan as the primary Center. Other than Aldridge who can slide into the center role but prefers not to. What do you guys think the Spurs will do about this? Will this be a major issue? A full season of defending Marc Gasol, deandre Jordan, and boogie cousins can not be sustainable. BOOM FIRST POST BIOTCHES
Doesn't matter what LMA prefers tbh. He'll play whatever Pop thinks is best for the team.
Not a major issue because the centers in this league aren't that skilled. Cousins is on a irrelevant team. Marc has a decent but not good enough team. Jordan falls in the not skill category. West will be sufficient in the regular season. Come playoff time his minutes need to decrease so Duncan, LMA, and Diaw can handle more minutes.
HOW COULD I FORGET THE RED GOD! Also I'm not very high on Boban I've seen film and he's absolutely terrible defensively. He guards pick and rolls like he has cement shoes. I'm thinking the lack of dominate centers allows Boris or west to eat some center mins hopefully.
*boner intensifies*
Against teams like Memphis and possibly Houston we might go Boban for the TD backup minutes...other than that, we will do well with West/Aldridge/Boris at the 5 for some minutes.
Doubt it. Can't imagine what Harden would do to Boban.
Exactly harden would eat Boban alive in a pick and role. Chris Paul killed Tiago with his calf injury and Tiago was way faster with an injury than Boban is now. He couldn't even defend Serbian white dudes lol
Nathan89 - go bernie go! go spurs go! oh wait i see a lot of similarities in their messages/content... hmmm might have something here lol
my man Boban, the Mountain Who Dunks
Diaw can play center
right Bobo?
he said yes, that settles it lol
He did it his first year with the Suns, and he was 40 pound lighter at this time...
Bonner, West, Boban and Duncan can all player center. West has a 7'4" wingspan and weighs b/n 240 and 250. He can definitely play center. Even Diaw can play small ball center as he has done in the past.
Jordan is not a post scoring threat, Gasol hardly posts up as Zach does and he works the high post. Cousins, well he has always done well against the Spurs (every team as well) because he is probably the best low scoring post player in the league right now.
The only guys that the Spurs really have to worry about is Griffin, Davis and Cousins scoring in the low post.
And Randolph. This isn't the 80's 90's and early 00' when big men dominated the league.

The current state of NBA big men is not that impressive. There's no Shaq, Robinson, or Hakeem. There's not even a Ewing, Mourning, or Mutumbo. Spurs can get away with having smaller guys play center because most of the big guys are terrible and the skilled players are really the smaller power forwards. Most NBA bigs can't punish on the block.
Duncan-27 MPG at center
Aldridge-6 MPG at Center
West/Diaw-15 MPG at Center
i actually don't think its that "big" an issue.
Baynes and Splitter were true centers. And Ayers could pretend to be one for a few minutes.....Duncan may be playing more realistic center than in how long?
Not worried about it, but it sucks losing Baynes. Perfect center off the bench.
But is Boban really worse than Baynes?
just add the extra "t", you know you want to
You cannot really assess a Spur based off of his individual flaws, but rather can Pop cover those flaws with his defensive schemes. You might see more zone defense with Boban. Mixing it up with Boban, West, and Diaw for the post position will be fine. Another question is who is going to guard Boban should the other team decide to go small?
Didn't know this stat, but given that, he can absolutely play center. Tiago Splitter has a 7'2" wingspan but only differs by 1" in standing reach compared to West. West of course can jump higher.
Center position solved!!
perfect!
