Same here with the SSD 5 second boot time
Have you ever overclocked before? Here is a great guide for doing it on Haswell chips.

So much easier now that you can do all this in BIOS vs using jumpers and . I remember how ing much I paid for the first Athlon board that could do everything in BIOS with no jumpers back when Atlons were monster CPUs and Intel was garbage. Jumpers ing sucked.

so what is the best game to test this with??

    witcher 3????

played witcher 1 and 2 and loved em
Best graphics intensive games to test your new rig: (IMO in order from best to not so best)

    1. Modded Skyrim - You can literally swap out every single aspect of the game and make it whatever you want.. see a texture you don't like? Go to the Skyrim Nexus and download a 4k version of it.. not too difficult to do, I could give you a hand if you need it.

    2. GTA V - ing sick, fun to cruise LA and take pics of the sun setting etc.. and optimized wonderfully to crank up those settings and stay above 60 FPS

    3. Crysis 3

    4. Arma 3 - longest view distance I've ever seen in a game.. with a couple mods this looks great

    5. Metro Last Light

Witcher 3, I dunno. They toned that down so much, it looks like some you'd see on console IMO.

Doesn't Arma III look like without a GSync monitor though? Gotta overclock the out of your CPU for that game, it's one of the few games where you'll notice any difference with an overclocked i5 vs a locked one.

Nah, if you're getting at stuttering and performance issues, that's only on multiplayer. Single plays just fine at 60 FPS, even w/ my 680.. The game is ing beautiful when you crank up the view distance.

Hmmm, I have a copy sitting on the hard drive that I rented from nosteam. I'll have to check it out. I have heard GPU doesn't matter at all for Arma, that it's strictly CPU bound. LOL at the crying about the game I hear from people with piece of FX series chips.

Yeah, my 680 was performing the same as my homies SLI 680's because of being so reliant upon CPU.. the multiplayer maps that have a ton of logic programmed across a ton of units are gonna your game all up.

Rookie map creators are to blame, if they don't know how to program enemies that are only rendered when visible, or disappear eventually after being killed, the server will up terribly a few hours in and will require a reset.

The best maps are the dynamic ones that create missions for the server in a loop, vs a long string of preset logic. For benchmarking and eye candy, stick to the scenario mode in single.

This is what it is. The combined test murders any system that doesn't have say dual 980 + a 5960x.

I can't believe I forgot Ryse: Son of Rome, which is supposed to be incredible graphically. I'm going to have to get this to run on my 970 too after seeing some video of it.

Damn, I would have never guessed the 970 was the second most used GPU in Steam surveys. No wonder Nvidia made the 960 so weak in comparison to where the 760 and 660 stood in their respective generations.

    1. Intel HD Graphics 4000: 4.64%

    4. Intel HD Graphics 3000: 2.54%
    5. Intel HD Graphics 4400: 2.35%

Another game that I think looks really amazing even though it's more than 2 years old is Tomb Raider. The lighting really looks great in it. It's crazy how good it looks considering just how easy it is to run the game, I mean a 970 is such massive overkill for it. It makes you wonder what the these developers are doing when games that actually need the 970's power (and in the case of Assassin's Creed Unity, the 980 Ti's power) don't look any better for the most part.

Even on single player I can't pull 60 fps without significantly dropping view distance in some of the Bohemia made maps. Like the tutorial one where you're setting up targets at the beginning, I'm pulling 35-40 fps with 33% GPU usage if I use the default draw distance the game recommends even if I turn FSAA and FXAA up all the way. That game is not made for locked processors. I think you have the best possible setup for it with an overclocked i5, a GSync monitor, and an upper midrange GPU. Dropping draw distance in half on that map gets me to a pretty steady 53-60 fps though.

But then other maps I play are great at 55-60 fps even with the draw distance cranked like ing . And man Arma III definitely has some of the best looking landscapes I have ever seen. It makes Crysis 3 look like . I have only just jumped in a couple of maps to look around though.

G-sync doesn't stop the stutter, this is ed server side in multi too.. and the draw distance on this game is ridiculous, I think 10K is an option just for taking screens tbh.

I just started playing Witcher 3, and while it is toned way down from the trailer a couple of years back and doesn't look like anything too special in screenshots, it is pretty impressive actually playing it on PC. The lighting is excellent and the facial models are really detailed. Even with Hairworks off (I don't have a 980Ti and I'd rather have 60 fps) Geralt's hair still moves like a (very) toned down version of TressFX in Tomb Raider. So it still looks like individual strands of hair and not like a cone shaped polygon like Lara Croft's hair looked like in Tomb Raider with TressFX off. I'm not too far in yet, but it looks better than GTA V so far.

Forgot to mention I have most of the settings at High, I think the only thing I have at Ultra is textures since Witcher 3 doesn't actually consume much VRAM and since I have 3.5 GB of it on my card. And it still looks ing amazing, better than Ultra on any other game I have. I'm already loving the combat in this game, I guess I'll have to give Witcher 2 another chance later on. But after playing Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 lately I need something with graphics.

After playing it for a couple of hours today, it's significantly harder than most RPGs I have played. The leveling system is pretty complex for a AAA game, it seems like kind of a throwback RPG, actually, kind of like old-school Fallout with all the customization and . It looks like crap in screenshots but is actually pretty impressive ingame. I have heard the antialiasing is temporal instead of spatial, so maybe that's why it looks so good playing while pretty so-so in stills. You need a beast of a GPU to run it though, even at high with a couple of settings on ultra my 970 is barely keeping at a consistent 60 fps. But it's actually pretty smooth and you feel like all that horsepower is put to good use unlike in say Unity, which looks like nothing special and gets the same kind of framerates (though a lot less smoothly than TWC 3 does).

Arkham Knight runs ty on even a an X, much less a 970. I'm not kidding, it's so bad that the game isn't for sale anymore and has been put off until about November or so. Warner Brothers pulled it from sale for PC because everyone was refunding it on steam. They actually outsourced the PC port to this tiny company of twelve that develops mobile games, and gave them like a 2 or 3 month deadline to port it from the consoles to PC. I thought AC Unity was a horrible port, but Arkham Knight is easily the worst port in years. Warner Brothers was telling people running $1000 video cards to run at 1080p with a 30 fps frame limit.

Get Witcher 3, that game is beautiful on a 970, though you gotta run on High with a 970 (use Ultra textures though).
