isn't this like his 3rd season in the league? you gotta be pretty damn bad to be a pro and only be able to land what basically amounts to a camp invite...

Yeah, they're just kicking tires, right?

I mean, what's wrong with kicking the tires?

Nothing wrong with kicking the tiyas

I don't think this kid ever got a fair shot. I'd hate to see him relegated to garbage time....
Spurs are a healthy organization that do things the right way. If Jimmer doesn't get the minutes in the beginning, it's because it's not his time yet. He'll be advancing and learning and stay ready for when his name is called though. I think Jimmer was miserable playing on Kings 2.0 last season. That's not gonna be the case at all this season.

This will be his fifth season; and we don't know if there weren't other more substantive offers. I'm pretty sure Jimmer was looking for the right system, else he was going to go play overseas. He didn't want to be an end of the bench guy on a bad team again.

Jimmer's stats in which he's got 20 min or more per game are all-star level numbers (and then some) for his per 36's. He's just been the victim of dysfunctional systems. Like everyone else, I do have concerns about his defense though.
This is a winner. Jimmer can score - thats what the spurs need and lack. Thats why the Spurs lost against the clippers. Had they played patty or Joseph more they would have won. But they felt like Green and Leonard could defend their way to the win. While I agree with a defensive philosophy, a team still has to make a shot and score more than the other team. Great signing by the Spurs. He's a hard worker, no character issues, great three point shooter, better than Bonner. Win win

He's entering his 5th season. Was drafted 10th overall in 2011.

Thanks. At some point he kinda disappeared... probably playing for the Kings, IIRC...

Seriously. Do you have any backup for this it is it just something you think?
Huh? I don't even know what you're talking about.

Look at the players I listed. Re was considered an epic bust through the first three seasons of his career. It wasn't until his fourth season that he figured it all out. Eddie House was terrible until his fifth season in the NBA. Kerr was a no-name journeyman until he signed with the Bulls. The year before going to Chicago, he hit 6-of-26 three-pointers.

Jimmer's hope is to follow a similar path. The NBA has a long history of undersized shooting guards taking a long time to develop and figuring out how to fit.

I don't think they'll be competing. Veterans have to be greatly outplayed to lose their spots to people down in the system. Eddie will be up with the Spurs in a year or two if he keeps playing well though.
But Jimmer doesn't have a spot yet. His contract is training camp only. He, like Eddie, will have to earn a regular season spot. There is only 1 left.

I'm gonna have to by memory cos I can't immediately find the graphic; but a couple years ago, midway through the season, Jimmer was leading the league in deep three percentage (3 or 4 feet and more beyond the arc) at 52 percent!

This is b/c he was stroking the open threes from deep on pull-ups. His teammates were freezing him out (in an effort to stifle his minutes), so most his other threes were contested and his numbers were down from closer. You don't have these problems in an organization like the Spurs that doesn't tolerate selfishness.

Jimmer could be next season's 2003 Steve Kerr! An insurance if TP get injured in this summer's Eurocup!

Can we get a real backup PG? TJ Ford was the last actual real PG we had and that's been a while.
Yup. What a luxury that was. McCallum gonna be good tho.

Kings players, Evans, Thornton, Thomas with cooperation from Cousins froze Jimmer out in an effort to keep their minutes up. Kings coaches had no control over the situation. Jimmer was relegated to the bench when as a lottery pick on a bad team he should've been out playing.

I suppose. I think (or rather hope) that the Spurs roll with Fredette and sign Eddie to a d-league contract.

I agree with you here, Spurs doing the right thing by picking up discards at around 25 years of age. Lots of players need time to figure out the NBA game, unfortunately rookie contracts expire before they put it all together.

Well, if one team can find a way to maximize his skills and hide/improve his weaknesses its the Spurs.

Great pickup. Likely as not wont work out, but a smart young player knowing he's playing for his career? If it works out it could be really nice, a poor man's Mark Price.

Eddie need one more year marinating over there in the D-league. He's got to learn to put effort on both sides of the court.
