Prior to watching this video I forgot all about Ayers.
Could not be more succinctly said.![]()
It's definitely a little bittersweet losing Splitter, as when healthy he's about as good a fit as you could ask for at center with his passing ability and how good he is guarding the pick and roll. I mean how many centers in the league can do that? But it just seems like a coin flip whether you're going to have him healthy at any given time.
Joseph had to go. He developed into too good a player to be stuck as a third point guard and I'm happy to see him in Toronto where he can get lots of minutes. It's like I felt about Budenholzer, I hated losing him but he was way too good to just be an assistant coach. Or how I felt about Presti.
I would have loved to have had Baynes back, but how was he going to turn down that huge contract Detroit offered him?
Belinelli I can live without. His defense was awful and while he is an amazing shooter, he doesn't do enough well to make up for his defensive shortcomings. I could live with Brent Barry getting destroyed by opposing guards since he had such strong point guard skills that paid off bigtime in some of the most important games in franchise history. But Marco was never Brent Barry.
Ayres wasn't any good. Just a gamble that never paid off.
I gotta admit that opening with Splitter blocking Wade got me a little misty eyed. Sure it was a goaltend, but that play was the last straw the broke the camel's back for Miami, and some great redemption after that nasty block James got on him in Game 2 of the 2013 Finals.
Thought it belonged in this thread as well tbh...

Best management/coach combination in NBA history:

Definitely the saddest about Splitter. He was a valuable player and was a great dude. And he didn't make the decision himself to leave. But at least he got traded to a good team with a great coach.
Wanted CoJo back but yeah there was no way the Spurs could afford him anymore.
Baynes, ehh. Good dude and contributed some but he was replaceable.
I never liked Beli but he was fine here. A great regular season player.
Ayres is the biggest loss of the gr--. Nah, goodbye.
Losing Cojo REALLY sucks in hindsight, but he's in a better place now![]()
Ayres
I always believed you would turn it around

Just thank god Danny isn't on this list, tbh.
Wish Bonner was in that vid![]()
I like to believe that all players become Spurstalk posters after they leave the team.
he didnt die![]()
Embellished a bit, but I was a huge Cojo fan tbh
He's from Canada so he will be more comfortable and more playing time is what I meant
I probably will miss Cojo the most, seeing his game develop the past couple years. Now that he becoming the player the Spurs drafted him for, he's going to play for another team.
