I agree with Ali being overrated but I don't have Chavez or Pernell, or Duran in the top 5. No way you skip Ray Leonard and Robinson for any of those 3. What people don't realize is Ali was far from a dominant during his era. You have to consider prime Roy Jones as well. He beat James Toney and Bernard Hopkins.

One guy that will never get the respect he deserves is Joe Calzaghe. He retired undefeated with a host of all-time greats under his belt.

Big Homie why do u say Ali is overrated I have him as the best....he was mostly smaller than a lot of his heavy weight opponents but he whipped them all....I saw all of his fights and he was a stud...I love Floyd but I think Floyd doesn't compare to Ali...Floyd is a good defensive fighter but Sugar Ray would have curb stomped Floyd tbh...Sugar Ray is the gold standard in light weight for me and Ali on the heavy weight side...

The thing with Ali is that his punches were quick and almost invisible because of his potent jab...Ali punched like a shaolin kung-fu artist he was very shadowy and most people didn't understand his seemingly phantom punches....Ali called his shots and his rounds....no boxer in history could do that....

Ali is my favorite fighter. Floyd didn't give Ali his full credit. Ali was a bad ass... a stud... and had the greatest mouth piece of any athlete... period. Ali looked better doing his better than any other fighter. He mastered the art of manipulating the media and his opponents. But Ali looked average against Norton and got his ass kicked in his first fight against Frazier. Ali loss to Spinks who only had 7 pro fights at the time. Ali was accused by his very own trainer for not training hard and underestimating his opponents. This is my knock on him. He was far from original as well. Ali was to Ray Robinson what Kobe was to Jordan... he took all his moves.

People love to throw out the "Floyd is a good defensive fighter," but refuse to acknowledge that he has the highest connect rate of any fighter in history. He is by far the most accurate puncher we've ever seen. Couple that with his great ability to slip punches and he's damn there impossible to beat. To go undefeated is extremely hard to do and Floyd has made it look easy.

Ali is really the Jordan of the Boxing, not from a boxing perspective but from a marketing perspective..

These s wouldn't be making the money they are making if not for Ali.

Poor comparison. Ali was a self-promoter while Jordan was just the talent. Magic was the greatest showman the NBA has ever seen. He took the NBA to new heights with the Showtime Era.

I was talking mainly in terms of marketing power.

Yikes. Well, at least you found the three losses in his first 58 fights. All decisions, two split and one unanimous. He fought double-digit rounds with a broken jaw in the Frazier and Norton fights. He beat Spinks in the rematch and beat Frazier and Norton twice each after the losses. It's odd that you mention that he underestimated his opponents. Spinks and Norton I are two prime examples of his doing that, and he'd have only one loss if not for those fights.

He wasn't a great technical boxer, but he was so ing strong and so ing fast. I think he's the only fighter I've ever seen who was so fast that he could dodge an incoming shot by pulling his head back out of the punch's reach. He wouldn't even put his hands up, he'd just move his head back. Anybody else did that, they'd get killed. Ali got tagged on occasion with shots that nobody else would ever get up from, and he kept fighting. His toughness and his defense were what puts him up there, not his ability to hype a fight or intimidate an opponent.

I think people underrate Ali because they look at his record, count his victories and forget that he lost almost four years out of his prime.

Personally, I thought Mayweather's list was pretty good, in no particular order. Put Robinson in place of him and it's pretty accurate. I think I'd put Joe Louis on there instead of Chavez. If I were going to put an old-school fighter in there, I'd have Willie Pep.

First of all he was cheating by holding the ropes... against the rules. Second... look at how out of shape he was... perfect example of the point I've been making. Ali clowned too much and it costed him dearly in some fights.

Here is your greatest. Can you even name the white guy?

Here he is again in one of the biggest fights of his career.

He's lucky that wasn't a Tyson left hook.

Here he is again getting knocked down by a BUM!!!

How embarrassing... lucky no one even bothered coming to that fight. Look at the empty stands. Floyd draws more than that at a presser.

Cooper should have KO'd Ali, that whole corner delay was a travesty.
