So I'm not deep into white supremacist rhetoric apparently, because I had never heard the phrase "Day of the Rope" used before. It didn't seem like something this particular redditor had invented so I decided to google it. It apparently comes from a pretty horrible sounding book written by an American neo-nazi, The Turner Diaries (link to Wikipedia).
Trigger warning now -- but in the book, this apparently refers to a day when all white women guilty of having had relations with people of other races are hanged by the "Organization", a shadowy white supremacist fascist group leading a revolt against the US government after measures are passed illegalizing firearms and legalizing rape (what?). Here's the kicker -- the entire book lauds this organization and apparently presents its actions as honorable.
Overall I'm fairly sickened by this reference.
The same phrase was apparently used in a 90s science fiction film starring Patricia Arquette and Corey Haim called "Prayer of the Rollerboys", in which a rollerblading (I'm not making this up) again white supremacist gang in Los Angeles is conspiring to get minorities hooked on a drug that contains a sterilizing agent called "rope". They talk about "the day of the rope" in reference to that, but it seems this is a reappropriation of the term as used in the Turner Diaries.
I have not seen this movie or read that book and I frankly don't intend to do either, but if you were morbidly curious about where the phrase came from, now you know, and knowing is half the battle or something.
