Right on, he played against real dudes and he tried to copied them, failed, the new guys played against him, and learned nothing from him because there was nothing to lear.

Summary: You play against Jordan, Payton and Stockton in your youth, you learn to have a killer mentality. You play against Kobe in your youth, you learn nothing at all.
