I'm referring to the Malice in the Palace.

How did he only get a year suspension? A lifetime ban wouldn't have been extreme imo but I think he should have been suspended from the NBA for at least 5 years. One year didn't give much time for anyone to remember what happened.

This is also about Stephen Jackson but he didn't initiate the incident.

Dude missed more than that. An entire NBA season plus the off season to the next season which is more like 16 or so months..without pay.

He lost millions of dollars by missing so much time off the court.

It's not like he killed somebody. The fans that got the beat out of them had it coming. They were throwing .

Ron was just part of the group who went into the stands, Stephen Jackson was another one. Really, how
drunk would you have to be to start with Ron and Stephen......both would make the starting 5 on
the team of scary NBA players. Two players on the Pistons side of that game were Ben Wallace and Rasheed Wallace.
What a joy it must have been to ref that game......*side note..one of the refs that night was infamous
Tim Donaghy, who spoke to a sports site about the game.

He didn't even go after the right guy or even try to sort out who hit him before throwing a punch. He didn't kill anyone but it was still an egregious offense, he nearly started a riot.

And regardless, you simply can't go in the stands and throw punches toward paying customers. It's not like someone came from the stands and started hitting him.

Ron Ron had Ben Wallace begging him in his face to do something. Instead, he tucks his tail and hides at the scorers table, then runs into the stands to go after some random dude half his size.

That guy Artest grabbed by his face didn't do to him, it was the guy he ran right past who was throwing at him.

Never had respect for Artest. This guy would have gotten his ass kicked if he played most of his career during the 90's. I remember hearing a story of how when he was rookie Oakley beat the out of him in practice. Ron always came across to me as a fake tough guy. A guy who would go after weak targets who wouldn't do anything to him. That night he miscalculated when he took the cheapshot on Ben Wallace. Just like a coward instead of confronting Ben after Ben slapped him he went after innocent people just to preserve his manhood. Stern actually tried to go for a longer punishment on Jax,Artest,O'neal but ultimately decided not to go through with it because it would take years in court fighting the players union to uphold the punishment. That fight set the NBA back for a whole entire decade due to the negative publicity.

Ummm have you watched the replay lately?

That foul doesn't even compare to what players do these days. Go watch it.

The only player getting their ass whipped that night, must have been embarassing as man.

Yep, he was calm as laying there when Ben was after him and as soon as a kid throws a beer that sets him off to run into stands. Bottom line is he didn't want any parts of Ben Wallace that night so he takes it out on some fan he knows won't beat him. If he was that upset go after the man who shoves you. We all know he was scared.

About Oakley I never heard about that one at all but he would kick his ass, Oakley was a real tough guy.

It was a cheap shot and yes I saw the replay of it. Artest came at full force when he swung and hit Ben in the shoulder area. It was pretty dirty and calculating move Artest did much like he has done to other players in the past. Artest knew what he was doing that night but didn't expect Ben would actually want to fight him. The lesson Artest learned after that brawl is that if your going to throw dirty cheapshots go after guys who can't kick your ass. Just like he gave Parker a rib injury during the '06 playoffs or the time he took out Harden.

Oakley confirmed it several years ago in an interview. Artest challenged Oakley to a fight in practice because he wanted to be the leader of the bulls. Oakley ended up whooping Artest's ass badly that Artest didn't talk for a week after it happened.

THIS. A fair punishment would have been 25-30 games for Artest, 10 for Jackson and maybe 5-10 for O'Neal. In addition, Ben Wallace was the instigator, so he should have gotten at least 15 games minimum. It was highway robbery (in the midst of an obvious NBA lovefest with the Pissy-tons) that Detroit emerged relatively unscathed from that. Maybe it would have meant the Spurs beating Miami in 5 instead of Detroit in 7, and the Spurs would have been more rested and Manu wouldn't have committed that tired foul in May 2006. We'll never know, tbh.

I dont think Artest cares who he hurts.

He's not all there. Also, he's clearly not a thinker.

I dont know where you get that he was afraid of Ben. Dude just doesn't care if he gets beat up or not. When he's in his crazy mood, he's gonna do Artest regardless.

Oakley was one tough MF, he would dust off most of the league today at his age and then some.

I googled it to find the interview or anything and this is all I get from an interview with him about Artest

STUFF: What current players could've banged in your day?

CHARLES: I love Ron Artest. David Stern did him wrong. The whole league should have stood behind him more. There's a lot of cowards in the league right now.

STUFF: Who needs to toughen up?

CHARLES: Dirk Nowitzki and Yao Ming. Yao is just a finesse guy. You've got a seven-foot-six guy setting a pick and roll at the three-point line.

Toughest dude in the NBA in the last 20+ years was Dennis Rodman hands down,,,,he constantly took on the powers in the paint and took them out of their game,,,he trolled Karl Malone so bad it was poetry in motion. And he was right when he called David Robinson soft. He had suicidal tendencies and it carried over to the court,,,he went balls out,,,safety be damned,,,He would have dressed up in a wedding gown and slapped Artest,,,, Rodman even took Jordan to the ground with reckless abandon,,,

You proved my point in the sense that he goes after weak targets. We all know a guy like Knight or Barea can't harm Artest. Artest was scared of Ben you could see it in his eyes he wanted no part of him. Also the fact he backed away from him immediately proves my point he was scared. If Artest was hundred percent crazy and didn't think like you said then why did he not try to hit Ben back after Ben slapped him? I would think a person who is hundred percent crazy would strike back the moment someone hits them. Artest is crazy in the sense he's a violent bully and just like any bully he will back down the moment he knows his target can beat his ass.

Look at Rodman throw Shaq to the ground then Shaq comes at him later and Rodman ready to throw down and his teammates stopped(wrestled him to the ground),,,,no one stood in Shaq's way,,,,he just stopped and backed up and knew he was a like Kobrick at that point,,,,

Rodman was tough and most of what you said but hands down? I disagree because Oakley was a tough SOB and took on anyone out there who tested him, beat up several people and was just as tough as they come. Anthony Mason could be up there too, both on the same team ironically. Rodman was tough though.
