We would have threepeat to be defending champs. Duncan with 7 rinngs.
Knowing the Spurs like we do if we won in '13 would we have won in '14 and would we be defending champions at the moment?
We would have threepeat to be defending champs. Duncan with 7 rinngs.
I think not. It worked out better this way
tbh.
Its hard to tell. Lets just be glad when that Game 6 story gets told for ages, at the end of it, they will have to mention the Spurs came back the next year and wrecked them with a historic performance.
Disagree 110%, 2013 felt spontaneous and amazing kind of like the 1999 and even 2003 runs, while 2014 felt expected and kind of dull imho
No, Pop tends to ruin repeats.
One of the most amazing comeback stories in modern sports was dull?? Are you kidding me. WTF is wrong with you. the 2014 season could of came right out of a movie.
2014 was nowhere near as exciting as the 2013 run. 2014 was sort of meh Tbh. I think everyone knew the Spurs were going to win. As if they were just doing what had to be done
I enjoyed the out of 2014, the Spurs avenging 2013 in record fashion was the most gratifying moment in my fandom. I guess those not enjoying must not live close to bandwagon Heat fans of the time.
I guess having the Thunder come back from the dead (Ibaka) in the 2014 WCF before putting them out of their misery wasn't exciting?
That and we were underdogs against a Miami team that had won 66 games, had a 28 game win streak, and just had an extra gear that just seemed to overpower every team.
I still cant believe we were in position to actually beat that Heat team. I though we were going to lose but damn, its all surreal when we took the 5 point lead......
That was the real finals. I knew once we got passed them that we would 100% beat Miami, no matter what. Game 2 did catch me off guard in the finals, but so did game 3 & 4 =)
This made it a little bit sweeter:
While we are at what if .4 doesn't happen and Manu doesn't commit that stupid foul on Dirk in '06 would the Spurs have 5 peated?
Looks like a bad case of too many mushrooms...
I still laugh every single time I watch this video![]()
After what happened in 2013, 2014 felt so good that I'm glad it went like it did.
Would have been a repeat, and 6 for Tim. He'd be ring for ring with MJ and Kareem right now. Ropes were out and everything
...then Kawhitism went and choked it all away![]()
Let's go back another year. What if Stern/NBA didn't fix the series vs OKC in 2012 to ensure they had a Durant vs LeBron finals? 2012 was a bigger disappointment to me than 2013, even though I'm sure people here will give me for saying it. Yeah we nearly won then didn't. . .but our team didn't seem overpowered as to end the season and through most of the playoffs. 20 game win streak all the way up to going up 2-0 in the WCF is pretty ing crazy. Our team was like perfect and looked unstoppable.
If we won that year, say 4-1 in the WCF and Finals. . .just think about it.
Also, had we won in game 6 in 2013, Duncan was gonna be Finals MVP. He would be top 3 GOAT status right now imo if he had 6 rings and 5 FMVPs.
pretty bad take IMO ... 2014 dos not happen without the loss of 2013 ... just looking how the Spurs reacted to ringing in 2014 and how they played 2015 - it is obvious a repeat or even threepeat is totally unrealistic
The All I Do is Win guy was mad his team lost lulz
The curse of postmodern existence is that we long for what we don't have and develop scorn for what we do.
2014 provided tougher compe ion and no built in excuses like 2013 when Russell Westbrook was out for the playoffs.
I don't know if we would have seen the same hunger from this team in 2014 had 2013 had culminated in a le. They were focused from day one of training camp right on through the entire season.
It was amazing to watch the Spurs steamroll their way through the playoffs after Dallas tested them in round 1.
If it happened at that time i wouldn't have the bad health right now that the trauma of "6" caused to my body and soul... People like to pretend and to say otherwise but if 5 would have happened at that time instead of "6" it would have been much more sweeter than the 5 the year after was(also because Timmy would have been the fmvp, also cause that le would have feel much more like a dream as out of nowhere le, instead of the 5 the year after that was more of like a remedy to help recover and fix a little from the trauma, damage and pain of the year before left...)...
