1. Sold weapons to Iran secretly in exchange for hostages
2. Diverted a portion of the sales to finance a rebel guerrilla outfit in another country
3. Initially told the American people that it wasn't a weapons-for-hostages swap
4. Backtracked on that claim and accepted that hostages were swapped
5. Had a dozen people in his administration convicted (with most of these being either vacated or pardoned later on)

What would you be saying about his character and his competence?

And that doesn't even begin to cover his tax cuts for the rich, reckless expansion of federal debt, financial deregulation that led to the S&L crisis etc

You forgot the obvious in which Reagan took Iraq off the State Sponsors of Terrorism list so his administration could prop up Saddam Hussein's regime selling them weapons, chemicals while offering up intelligence and training to his army during the Iraq/Iran war. And then Reagan turned a blind eye while Saddam used chemical warfare on Iran and their civilians (and ignorant Americans wonder why the Iranian old-timers chant "Death to America" ). That decision affected our foreign policy in the middle east for the next 20+ years.
