Pope Francis Smacks Churches: “If You Don’t Help the Poor and Needy, then Pay Taxes Like a Business”
http://ringoffireradio.com/2015/09/p...e-all-busines/With Pope Francis coming to the United States just a little over a week away, he has sent a very clear message to churches that use their tax-exempt status as a way to exploit their property for economic gain. Some churches are refusing to accept refugees into the buildings they own, instead preferring to use it to make money on rentals.
“Some religious orders say, ‘No, now that the convent is empty we are going to make a hotel and we can have guests and support ourselves that way, or make money,'” said Pope Francis. “Well, if that is what you do, then pay taxes! A religious school is tax-exempt because it is religious, but if it is functioning as a hotel, then it should pay taxes just like its neighbor. Otherwise it is not fair business.”
The practice of renting space in religious buildings is very common in Europe. The philosophy behind it, that Pope Francis describes, could very well undermine what many televangelists do in the United States. Rather than practicing their religion, these charlatans run lean businesses and make fat profits. If the church isn’t engaged in the business of the Church, as Pope Francis explained, then it’s time for them to pay their fair share of taxes!
Demonstrating that he follows his own words, the Vatican is taking in two refugee families, who will remain “as long as the Lord wants.”
Paging John Hagee.....
You can't hate on the guy...
So he's not a filthy Liberal
Not a religious guy, but I think a lot of people try very hard to box this guy into certain ideologies (especially in 'Murica), and this is a person that very likely doesn't even know what Americans define as 'conservative' or 'liberal'.
Of course he does, don't be an idiot. Your average Jorge/Johan/Jorg on the European street knows the contours of American politics/idiocy. Just because you think we need to "do more research" on climate change after we just set ANOTHER record high for surface temperatures this summer doesn't mean everyone is as stupid as you, and that includes the Pope.
John Paul II was not that long ago.
Franky has surprised me, he's not the constipated, conventional, limited assholes (Ratzinger) the Church usually chooses.
But let us know when doctrine changes, eg, married priests (they used to be), women priests (always second class humans, just like any other Big Religion), gays accepted.
The Church is perfect, eternal, unchangeable. The personality, positions of any current Pope might win a popularity contest, but won't touch doctrine (not ex cathedra).
(One surprise was cancelling limbo bull . Never heard what happened to those liberated limbo residents, did they all move to HOU and DAL like Katrina refuges?)
He's a rockstar tbh. Never been a pope who non Catholics are crazy to meet.
Oh and of course he knows American politics. A person can learn the gist of American politics over coffee.
Pope Francis rocks!!!
I'm not religious, so what makes a Pope "good"? Doing good things? Or, saying things that comport with your ideology?
He says cool that other popes ir even simpleton catholic priests are afraid to say.
He's also cool. Heard he drives around Vatican by himself doing his own errands like buying glasses , etc.
Says cool and drives himself around. Got it. Thanks.
Yup no pope ever did that before. Rock star
People that don't comport with your ideology can't be good?
It just seems to me like like left wingers like what he says.
I don't understand why there is a pope. Likewise with royal families.
boutons seems pretty conflicted in this thread... I don't know it's all love from the left (or the right)...
The meme you posted is idiotic, but the pope is right in what he is saying.
not at all
From your comments, it sounds you really want to like him, but won't until he changes doctrine. What makes you want to like him in the first place?
Name a true prophet preacher or priest
Donating to the needy or not, churches should all be taxed
LOL!!!!!!!!
