    So no backpacks whatsoever.
If it would make the TSA go "Aw, no.", then it shouldn't be brought to school.

So, you can stop with the strawman examples.

What part of a pencil case clock would make the TSA confiscate it?

    Yeah, the TSA checks backpacks.

And, you're not seriously suggesting that the TSA would let Ahmed keep his clock, are you?

Meh, if they have to determine that something is not a bomb, it shouldn't be brought to school.

Yeah what's with this meme. TSA has X-rays for that . It would pass through and not be seen as a threat. Just like, you know, something made from the same parts, like... oh yeah, a clock.

    Yeah, the TSA checks backpacks.
    Most schools don't.

    Why not?

    That's where the bombs are.

And, you're not seriously suggesting that the TSA would let Ahmed keep his clock, are you?
I am asking you directly why they would confiscate a clock, Darrin.

They wouldn't confiscate a clock, but they would confiscate THAT clock. 100% guaranteed.

Why would they confiscate a pencil case clock, Darrin?

They would confiscate any su ious looking electronic device. I have some diagnostic equipment that I don't even bother trying to travel with anymore. I have it shipped to my destination.

    Anecdote!

"Pencil case clock" and "su ious looking electronic device" are not listed on the list of forbidden items.

There is 0% chance of someone boarding a plane with this. Anyone who says otherwise is a liar.

So after it is looked at and everyone realizes it isn't a bomb just like the school officials and cops did, they're going to confiscate it why?

Wouldn't he need a plane adapter to turn on his "hoax bomb"?

    1. (Most likely) Exactly what he said they were, or
    2. (Long shot) To troll his teachers and police into escalating this to a point that got him arrested.

What it obviously wasn't was a serious bomb threat, which is what zero tolerance policies are intended to prevent. I would understand this kind of reaction if they had found a pencil-case-sized digital clock left in a bathroom, or if it was done in any more anonymous way. Since he had already shown it to a teacher, there is no reason to believe he was planning on using it in a bomb threat. So this was any easy controversy to avoid.
I don't think option 2 is a long shot at all considering the stunts his father has pulled and what has been going on in Irving recently concerning Islamaphobia and Sharia Law. It was a well thought out easy to pull off troll job that was more successful than they had probably hoped.

They probably confiscated it because it's either going to be evidence supporting his arrest or evidence used in the civil suit against the police department for wrongful arrest if it comes to that.

You should start looking into his grades. See if they're consistent with someone who is bright and inquisitive -- especially in the STEM fields.

We need to "get" this kid.

I'm speaking tongue-in-cheek of course. Aren't you the one who said you were going to punch his family in their face (before quickly deleting that) or was that just his dad?

I have no doubt this kid is a straight A student. Not really the point.

And this "injustice" turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to him.
