So, yeah, its understandable that digital clock parts thrown into a box, plugged in, and setting off an alarm would make people nervous.

I'm definitely no expert on what bombs or IED's look like. I'm familiar enough with electronics that I could, upon close examination, determine that it was a disassembled clock. I suspect his English teacher was familiar with neither.

I'm definitely no expert either. My sticking point here is that there is nothing at all that looks like it would explode in this pencil case. I know enough about bombs to know that and I'm sure just about everyone involved knows that as well.

And he was NOT arrested for bringing a bomb to school, bu a "hoax bomb". That's a terrible law because it's nearly impossible to prove intent.

Does it look like a bomb to you? Yes...it looks a uva lot more like a bomb than a clock.
What part of Ahmed's device looks like it can explode? None....but that doesn't mean things can be concealed. Better safe than sorry...especially when something as su ious (using Ahmed's own words) is being examined.
