Don't get confused by the thread le; The Admiral is a spurs mt rushmore player who was so immensely talented that he was actually capable of winning an MVP.

But the similarities are striking... both can't be the first banana on a le team. Just absolutely can't. Don't have the mental makeup to take the last shot and both are known to get owned by players they shouldn't get owned by when the team is relying on them.

The Admiral needed Duncan to put him over the top, just like Kawhi needed Parker to elevate him.

    The little general once said:

"We can't wait for David Robinson to take us, because he ain't going to be there for us."

i'm thinking of a scenario where MVParker probably said something similar in the lockerroom during the Clippers series, tbh. Then the results forced PAFTO's hand into acquiring LMAlpha. We'll see if Kawhi can play the role of 3rd or 4th banana with the pressure off

Robinson was absolutely a star, but kawhi is still too young to compare.

Robinson I think knew and wanted to be a leader, but didn't like the stress. The stress bothered Robinson but I never felt Robinson was going to crack. I mean the dude survived more basketball drama and humiliation than anybody.

Kawhi is unprecedentedly sheltered. I can't think of anyone with such talent who had remained role player for so long. That's a credit to the spurs for having depth, but also a question for kawhi whether he can and wants to lead a team or remain his entire career as role player supreme, a role he might be better fit for.

Looks like we got a dabom melt down. I take it dabom is saying

"Kawhi is alpha now. The premise of this thread is faulty, how dare you compare kawhi to an ordinary hall of fame player"

Right, but he got his first crack at being top banana and failed spectacularly. And not just against a peer, but a 35 year old scrub. It was the hypothetical equivalent of The Admiral getting owned by, say, Hornets era Robert Parrish. Very concerning, and such a debacle that the front office immediately had to roll out the red carpet for LMAlpha.

There's nothing wrong with being a team beta. Every team needs betas, arguably in higher number than Alphas. I think the Spurs can thrive with 3 alphas in the starting lineup next season playing alongside Kawhi. But he needs to know his place in the pecking order, and his delusional followers should too.

I bet the Admiral was secretly hugely relieved when Tim showed up to training camp in 1997 and owned him so hard the spurs had to shut the blinds on the windows so the media couldn't see.

Duh any player would love a top 5 guy coming to smash Karl Malone. I don't think Robinson was softer than most players. Compared to Jordan everyone looks pussy. But all the soft you say about Dave you could also say about lebron. Lebron is better, but put Robinson in the current east teams.... Oh my! He'd dominate.

It's just fundamentally rare to see a star with that level of shyness kawhi has. And yet shyness itself is common for young men, But I really think kawhi likes basketball more than s om. But whether he wants to be a star is not known. And frankly most people don't care as long as the team wins.

It is the rare exception that a player with less than 5 years experience are capable of leading a team to a championship. Magic Johnson, Duncan, etc.

Give the man a reasonable window of time to prove himself. His level of progression has been impressive. You think Johnnie Cochran was freeing killers from murder charges 4 years out of law school? Nope.

How many years did it take Jordan to ring? Shaq? Hakeem? Etc

Enrique's mentality = Mike Sweetney's mentality. Throw your career away because you can't stop yourself from shoving food into your fat face.

    The solution:

Both LaMarcus and Kawhi should average 30 points per game to silence the doubters!
