Stop asking Why, and ask how or when. Why is a silly question. Evolution doesn't have a reason other than just adapting gradually. Adapting is the key word here. The species doesn't have to get bigger, stronger, harder to kill, but rather adapt to survive and the traits of the genes follow. What is interesting however is that these fish developed feet to walk the land, and then some went back in the ocean and they lost their feet, eg the whales.

Well ants came from something similar to wasps. We actually all came from bacteria, then the first intelligent life was in the ocean like fish, so on and so forth. It was about 3.5 billion years for bacteria to develop on earth. But before that we all came from s ust and not fish or bacteria. In a sense.

Polypterus is an African fish that can breathe air, 'walk' on land, and looks much like those ancient fishes that evolved into tetrapods. The team of researchers raised juvenile Polypterus on land for nearly a year, with an aim to revealing how these 'terrestrialized' fish looked and moved differently.
The fish showed significant anatomical and behavioural changes. The terrestrialized fish walked more effectively by placing their fins closer to their bodies, lifted their heads higher, and kept their fins from slipping as much as fish that were raised in water. “Anatomically, their pectoral skeleton changed to become more elongate with stronger attachments across their chest, possibly to increase support during walking, and a reduced contact with the skull to potentially allow greater head/neck motion,” says Trina Du, a McGill Ph.D. student and study collaborator.

I am sorry, but it is going over your head. You want to observe a fish all of a sudden walk, or an ape give birth to a human. But that is not how evolution works. If that ever happened, then evolution is wrong. All museums around the world would be stripped down. You will probably get a prize for pointing this out. What you want to ‘see’ macroevolution and not microevolution. You want to see a species changed dramatically, in a generation or two. But it takes hundreds of thousands, even millions, or tens of millions of years for that to happen. Microevolution happens all time, like humans, especially in Asia are not being born with wisdom teeth. Because wisdom teeth are not needed anymore due to dental care, and our diet are making wisdom teeth useless. And for some reason how the Asian face is structure, it is even more crowded, therefore that is why we are seeing less and less of them being born with wisdom teeth.
We won’t see in our lifetime a human population where everyone is born without wisdom teeth. But it appears that is what is occurring. And what is the point of ear lobes. We won’t be alive when, or if they are used or evolve to something else. We believe the reason behind the evolution process behind the ear lobe was for extended sexuality necessary for pair bonding. The point is, these small micro changes are currently observable, but they are minor and don’t resemble the required evidence of macroevolution that you have decided to required to believe.
You need to separate observing and seeing. An example of observing is Pluto. We have only discovered Pluto in 1930, however we know that Pluto takes 248 years to orbit around the sun. How can we have known that we have haven’t seen it happen? We use evidence from other means to prove the distance required to travel to complete the journey. That is how we prove macroevolution. We cannot see it happen but we use other evidence to prove the journey of say the human race.
But we have ‘seen’ evolution at work. And there are plenty of examples. My favourite one is the Italian wall lizards. They introduced these lizard to an island. They were left for decades, and later compared them to the original lizards. The wall lizards on the island adapted. They were found to have shifted from a mainly insectivorous diet to a vegetation one. Due to this, their heads were larger, and has a far greater bite force. They also development of cecal valves, muscles used to separate portions of the intestine. These serve to slow the passage of food through the intestine and give time for the bacteria in the gut to breakdown the plant matter for absorption. This is a major adaptation that we observed in a few generations of the lizard.

The earth is 4.5 billion years old. If you were to condense the history of earth on a 24 hour clock, life appears at around 4am, land plants at 10:24pm, dinosaur extinction at 11:41pm, and humans would've began at 11:58:43pm. We have only just arrived.
