I'm still surprised watching that vid how fast Boban is running down the court for his size.
His north to south speed is pretty damn good. That was one of the pros I first noticed about him when I watched highlights of him this summer. Normally, men his size have the stride, but have no speed. It's fluid running. Even his pick n roll quickness was surprising good.

He usually has pretty good hands. You could see that the chemistry just wasn't there with the guards on all the pick and rolls. He barely hit any on ball defenders with his screens but that should improve over time as the guys get to know each other's tendencies. Don't forget that he just recently started practicing with the rest of the team.

Yeah, fumbling one nut high pass from Jimmer is pretty understandable. He'd better get used to that high-low ish from Anderson though. That's going to be money.

    Loved him roughing up DMC.
He'll be worth the money alone using him to come in and beat up the opposition 'tough guy', put them off a bit

As other posters unfamiliar with his game have mentioned, his raw talent is surprising (in a good way). Gotta say I'm most impressed by his confidence, though: he clearly believes he belongs on the floor in his first game. Can't say that about a lot of new Spurs, past or present.

I think it's a bit foolish to worry about his hands or rebounding because of one game. Both of those things were strong suits of his over in Europe. He's known for having fantastic hands for someone his size, and I seem to recall hearing that he set rebounding records in European leagues.

agree regarding his hands ... his rebounding might not translate that well into the NBA as the players are more athletic here and in the few minutes he played it looked like people easily outjumped him to get a rebound. but I want to see more of him

I wonder if the Spurs could pe ion the NBA to allow Boban to play in a singlet jersey just to up his "brand"

I don't think it's foolish, since it's one of the main deal breakers when it comes to oversized players. Fumbling balls, foot injuries, incapability to make a ft, fouling, lack of agility.

it's usually the other way around, padding rebounds is much easier in the nba

But he displayed great hands all throughout his time in Europe. If you read scouting reports on him you almost always hear mention of his soft hands. It really doesn't make sense to throw out everything he's shown in the past and instead choose to focus on 10 minutes of basketball where he looked like he had stone hands.

Hopefully the fumbling was due to him not being familiar with his new team so not knowing when to expect a pass and from where.

Yeah, the Jimmer pass was low and unexpected. If he drops the little lob pass from Kyle consistently, I'll be concerned. In the end, it's just two passes.

I didn't say anything like that, just that we need to take notice. And anyway, it's easier to dribble in europe, players reach much less.

Nba players are faster and bigger so they can close the gaps easier which gives him less room to maneuver anyway.

Overall, I think it was an intriguing start for the giant. How he learns to compensate for the higher level of play will be the key to his success.

First of all, if he gets the lob or high pass, he needs to not bring the ball down. No way anyone can get to the ball if it's over his head.
