Didn't see the game, but from what I can see from the box score and every ones comments, Parker and Simmons were horrible. Looks like it was true that Simmons was struggling in training camp. He's on the ropes of possibly getting cut, hopefully he plays well Friday against Houston.

What I noticed about LMA is that we're just not using him... not looking to post him, etc...

Might just be the plan during preseason
It was like he wasn't even on the court. But its preseason, it is practice and the goal is not necessarily to win the game but to work out plays.

Why do you think we're going to have "big shooting issues"? I miss Marco too, but he made 1.4 3s a game last year. We basically lost him and got Anderson, but also replaced a terrible shooting big in Tiago with a big who has range in Aldridge. We also didn't have Patty most of last year, and now he looks healthy. Cojo, Baynes... none of the other departures were good shooters. So where do the "big problems" come from? It looks like a pretty similar team shooting-wise to last year.
Correct observation. It is preseason and Pop likely has asked the team to limit 3 point shooting.

I love LMA, but these ing no lift jumpers make me scretch the wall.
He shouldn't be jumping high as his reach is already high. Getting too high in a jump shot is actually bad for consistency.

That's why guys like rose and Westbrook brick shots all the time. Shorter guys have to jump to get to that sweet point.

Damn that fat ass Tony played 30 minutes and only had 6 points?

Between him and Manu, they will cost the Spurs so many games.

Parker wasn't even trying. But a good sign was his mid range jumper was falling last night.

Simmons On the other hand was downright horrible. Pop has a lot of film to go over with Simmons after last night's game. Simmons isn't getting cut. He is the most athletic guy on the team and he shown he is a capable defender, better than Butler or Williams. But he made a lot of mistakes last night. Remember, it's a learning curve for this guy right now. And he has a long way to go before he becomes a standard player in the Spurs rotation at this point.

Spurs are already challenged athletically, absolutely no way Spurs sign a 36 year old Butler or Williams. Team is already slow to begin with!

Not the best defense, but the Suns were shooting lights out. I remember looking up at the scoreboard and they were shooting 57% from 3 in the third quarter.

What you saw in this game appears to be the regular rotation with exception of Mills.

Williams really was playing in place of Mills.

What was interesting was the combinations on the floor.

Honestly, the team was terrible... I hate all the ISOs.... Leonard, West, Aldridge ... stinks!!!!

The team needs mire quality passing from their perimeter players. I saw a couple of successful PnR in the highlights between Aldridge and Anderson. They don't even play or practice together much, but already Anderson is running some PnR with LMA better than guys in the first unit. When Aldridge is in the second unit, guys actively look for him. The first unit is out of whack. The only real passer, talented passer in that unit is Tim.

I'm not a fan of people using +/- to try and analyze basketball games and players. But there are times that it has some meaning. Jonathan Simmons was a staggering -29 in this game. And he played right at 20 minutes, which means that the Spurs just got the living kicked out of them when he was on the floor.

It's usually a combination of players, but the next worst for the Spurs was Kyle Anderson at -18 in 24 minutes. I know it's pre-season, but that's bad enough to just say, "HOLY Simmons was bad!" You can't always learn much from +/- but you really have to dig through some box scores to find other -29 nights.

Anderson spent a lot of minutes next to Simmons though which affected his +/- like you mention, and when Simmons sat and Williams came from the bench, the team made a bit of a run and stopped the bleeding. He had his own bad plays in jumpshots he forced or missed badly, but he's not a star to overcome Simmons' bad play IMO. Simmons bad defense also caused breakdowns in the team's defense.

No surprise. They couldn't shoot 3s last season too. Well compared to their 2013-2014 season. The Warriors and Rockets led the league in 3s attempted and made. Hope it improves this season.
