He's a rapidly aging, once great player with a near suicidal inability to accept his decline or his place in the new order of things. In his hubris he thinks that if he just puts up enough shots from long range that can impress the world despite horrendous accuracy. Quite frankly I wouldn't want him on the Olympic team because he's already doing too good of a job representing America.
