First world problems, tbh
Today my son told me that only 4 kids in his class even stand up when the pledge of allegiance is recited in the morning. There is no "under God" said over the intercom although the 4 kids who stand say, "under God." In this class, only 2 kids (my son and one other) are American born - the rest were born in other countries, but raised here. I posted a video of the girl leading a movement for free public college, cancellation of all student debt and $15 minimum wage for campus jobs, and I wonder what is becoming of our kids.
Is it that they feel so en led to free breakfast, free lunch, - that now they want free tuition, no student debt? And not standing for the pledge of allegiance - is there no patriotism, no respect for the flag, no appreciation for those who have fought for the freedom that we enjoy? I'm just shaking my head at what is to become of the next generation.
One thing I am glad of is that the NBA always gives due respect to the flag, our national anthem and the military.

They leave out the "under God" over the intercom. It's the NOT standing I object to - they don't have to say it but at least, stand. I guess it bugs me that they don't believe the words of the pledge - even with all its problems, it's still the best place to live in the world - the place with the most freedom and liberty. This is what I worry about - when immigrants don't assimilate and become Americans. Our traditions and customs - what makes us American - disappear.The pledge shouldn't have God in it. I call BS.....kids stand during the pledge and say 'under God'.....but how many adults do every single day?
what does "allegiance" mean to kid, or even to an adult? pledge allegiance? it's all bull , indoctrination of kids not yet at the age of reason, knowing not what they do

I'm just relaying what happens in this classroom at this school - believe or not as you wish. Adults don't have morning announcements - they're off getting their coffee.
But, what if every company had the same expectations we have for schools.....US pledge, TX pledge and a moment of silence...How many adults would do it everyday?
I guess. we have only been saying the pledge for 70 years or so. Getting some distance on the Cold War makes me see just what a paranoid time it was for the US where things like the pledge litany seem less tradition and more indoctrination.

This school is in Hialeah (Miami), FL - mostly low-income, Hispanics (not Cuban). Most of the kids are atheists - I was surprised thinking that they would be Catholics (since they are from South America).

We got indoctrinated into thinking something was wrong with a person if they chose not to participate in the ritual.

What did you think was wrong with someone who didn't participate in the ritual? Did you do or say something bad to the kid who didn't participate?

Don't remember specifically. Seemed to be the general opinion at the time.
I still remember doing the pledge AND the Lord's Prayer in elementary school in the mid 70's.
At some point, it's just memorization and doesn't really mean anything, tbh.
