It's not the worst thing in the World since we get to see how KA plays when he's given heavy minutes in b2b games.
Are we going to call Simmons back up?
I guess at least if forces the Spurs to give some other players some minutes.
Scary thing is that it's completely unpredictable when Manu will go down. Need him to be healthy enough near the end of the season to get some time in before the playoffs.

Bummer. But I'd rather they be extra cautious with him and have him healthy for the playoffs.
Time for other guys to step up now.
That is exactly right. I love seeing Manu excel in this early part of the season, but I'd much rather see him thrive in the playoffs.
What this means is Pop must STOP being Pop when it comes to benching young/new players every time they make a mistake. Specifically, due to Manu's injury history, Pop has to bite the bullet and keep KA in games, even when he screws up. Living through KA's growing pains is essential to helping keep Manu fresh for the playoffs, and also crucial to the Spurs' success beyond the 2015-16 season as KA becomes a major part of the team.
I agree. Although, I'll say it's tough this year because seeding is so important and every win counts. But I think a healthy playoff Manu outweighs that. Especially if it means they are also able to develop some players at the same time.
He's averaging less minutes per game than he has at any point in his NBA career and his usage rate is virtually the same as it's been over the last two seasons. How is that not sustainable? The only change is his overall production which is incredible considering his age and the wear & tear on his body. His PER is currently the highest of his career and his TS% and eFG% are the highest since the strike shortened 2012 season. Probably the most shocking is his turnover % which is the lowest since the 2010-11 season. It would be remarkable if he could that up throughout the course of a season but I doubt he could. He's just buying time for other players to get their ass in gear. If the ball movement doesn't return to what it was, similar to the 2012-14 seasons, the team will continue to struggle. With 4 out of the 5 starters ISO first players (Green being the only exception), it will be tough. A lot is riding on the shoulders of Tony Parker to orchestrate the offense or it's going to be tough sledding because at this point, Mills and McCallum are not long term solutions at the point..
Actually, if anybody is pissed it would be LMA since Manu is the only one that feed him the ball in scoring positions. I expect Bobo to be the primary playmaker off the bench & hopefully Danny/Patty/Butler can get back to being 40%+ shooters.
The issue has been Danny not Fathead. If the starters weren't digging a hole then Manu wouldn't have to carry the offense. Kyle's value is when Kawhi is sitting out games b/c he's the only one w/ size that can guard wing players.
Looking at next 2 games, I bet this "injury" is really rest before the Grizz Saturday.
Manu has given the Spurs and their fans more than any of us would've predicted to start the season. Anything we get out of Manu is found gold. I am sure this is preemptive more than anything, plus the new recruits need to get the training wheels taken off. I know a lot of people, that aren't Spurs fans, that hate how the Spurs rest players but I really love how deep rotation guys always get a chance to play meaningful minutes during the season. I'd like to see McCallum or Simmons start to find their way.
agree...
I agree entirely... he shouldn't be playing this early in the season. He probably needs a 3 month break.
Spurs don't need a 38 year old player to bail them out in the regular season.
They need that 38 year old player come playoff time.
I meant sustainable through a long 82 games. I didn't mean he would stop playing well, so much as he would be susceptible to injuries, or be run down like he was last season. He really lost rhythm after a good start after the December stretch last season.
This season, he said he wanted to reduce his minutes even more than last season (I assume to prevent him from wearing down), and that his role was changing. He said he wanted to play between 18-22 minutes. If you want him healthy for most of the season, you would want him closer to the lower end and need other guys to pick up the tab. Instead he has played 24 minutes in close games, expending a huge amount of energy bringing this team back from holes.
I think they expected Ray and Kyle to pick up the rest of the minutes. Both are good enough to get a few minutes with some regularity they are young and need playing time to develop and to be evaluated. Obviously, they are no Manu. They are not going to dig this team back from holes, which has been Manu and the bench's task lately. That is what I meant by not being sustainable as well. You can't consistently get on holes and expect Manu and the bench to rescue you every time.
Over the length of a season, you would not want that to continue.
I didn't expect Manu to contribute as much as he has this season anyways. I just expected him to just be there along for the ride anyways. We shouldn't rely on a 38 year old to still be an important cog to winning and we should be able to win without him. Get some well deserved rest Manu.
Smells like a mini vacation for Manu. Manu has been busting his butt getting wins while the newbies figure it out. I think Pops is saying time for them to figure it out on their own.
This further illustrates the need to upgrade fourth wing. They can get away with it when the top three are healthy and will be able to more so in the playoffs, when they can go to a virtual three wing rotation. But Ginobili and Leonard can never stay healthy for long and one of these years, Green is bound to get injured, too.
Now two should be virtual lock wins are thrown into question. Of course, they should still win both, but the way they look right now, it's far from a sure thing.
Tonight's game is up in the air to an extent, but the Pelicans are absolutely terrible and may be without Davis to boot. They prolly would've sat Manu for that one anyway.
Manu gave up his body, diving on the floor for loose balls, and taking some hard licks to win that Blazer game. He just flat put the team on his back for 14 points in the quarter and we win by 13. I saw a sign in the stands that said 'The Fire Still Burns' and that's what you get from him. A burning compe iveness that can't be smothered when he sees the need to be Super Manu again.
Well, dudes, he put that one in the W column. Somebody else will have to step up.
I just realized where your avi came from...
Bloodsport, right?
And you quote Ghostbusters 2 in your sig...
You're definitely a fan of the 80's.
RIP in piece Manu, see you next season.
And this.
TBH, on top of minutes restriction, anything more than 70 games would be doing it wrong as far as the team's dependency on Manu..Rest him all B2Bs and other ones vs ty teams..
I heard on a radio program here in argentina that the descition was 100% pop, because he didnīt want Manu to play these games out of precaution.
A reporter considered "close" to manu said that he would normally play through this but the team might benefit from his absense.
