The Rockets problem is that they have a sg that wants to win the scoring le instead of making his team mates better along with a severely overrated pf/C that still has no back to the basket game and hasn't worked to his evolve his game in lieu of his dwindling athletic ability.
Two "me" players surrounded by a supporting cast of players with good, but very limited in their skill sets.
The ability to make it work are still there, but only if the "me" players take ownership in making their running mates better. This takes sacrifice of ego, therefore the prognosis looks grim.
One win after McHail was axed and Rocket fans rejoiced, and then as the to quote the great Manu, they regressed to the mean. Somewhere McHail is laughing.
The biggest mistake McHail made was coddling two star players that needed coddling. He needed to go Pop on them and set them straight from the get go.
He couldn't go Pop on them.
1. He didn't have the authority and the FO backing to do it
2. They wouldn't have taken it, they'd have simply ran him out
