WTF?
And lose the heart and soul of the Spurs?????!

Mills for all the good that he does has always only worked because Ginobili is the real pg when Parker is off the court. Tonight Ginobili will be out resting like many games to come. Will we lose? I would guess not but every game without Ginobili will be significantly more difficult to win and he will miss many do to rest and possibly injury this year. What will make it more difficult is the absence of Belinelli who brought some scoring ability.
Beyond that, with the loss of Joseph the team is much more reliant on Parker’s health throughout the regular season and playoffs because Mills isn’t an adequate backup pg and neither is McCallum.
Basically Mills offers no relief to two of the most vulnerable to injury players on the team. To quote Wikipedia, “In engineering, redundancy is the duplication of critical components or functions of a system with the intention of increasing reliability of the system, usually in the form of a backup or fail-safe.” Mills happens to not be very beneficial in that regard.
So the Spurs need someone who can shoot the three well to fit with Ginobili on the bench, be a better fit for the starting lineup than Mills or McCallum if Parker gets hurt, and possibly replace some of what we lost when Belinelli left us.
That player is Jarrett Jack. Mills would obviously have to go but Spurs should also be willing to trade KA and a first round pick if absolutely needed. Spurs should try to avoid giving the pick but the Nets can have KA. This should be appealing to the Nets since they aren’t in the best draft pick situation.
Jarrett Jack does more than solve the previously mentioned issues. He is talented enough to lessen the load every night for the other guys. He is 6’3.5 and has a 6’7.5 wingspan, so he is a much better fit in two pg lineups.
Perhaps the most beneficial thing about Jack is that he is a much better fit for a potential matchup with the Warriors. Jack has the size and defense to switch to 1 through 3 with Danny or Kawhi without being a huge liability on any given possession. To put his defense in perspective his opponents shot -0.1% worse in 2014(so normally they shot 43.1% and against him the shot 43%), they shot -0.4% worse in 2015, and so far in 2016 they have shot -1.7% worse. Parker’s opponents have shot 2.1%, 1.3%, and 10.3% better for the same years.
On the offensive end Jack will provide a pg with pg skills that can also shoot reliably from beyond the arc. Although Mills can shoot he doesn’t have the pg skills to play substantial minutes without Manu to share the court with him. Now that Kawhi is the player with the highest usage on the team surrounding him with three point shooters who aren’t just shooters like Green is a necessity. An offense cannot possibly flourish when the highest usage player is surrounded by only one three point shooter.

I definitely would not trade Patty Hearst(it's what I call him), but for Jarret Jack I'd consider it. , why not just trade Parker for Jack. That's a better deal.
Agreed. Patty Mills is garbage.
Him plus draft picks for Mario Chalmers.
Mills is the Spurs quickest player. At times, he's the best three point shooter. He can score without having to be set up. He takes momentum changing charges. And he's paid well below market value. To trade him borders on preposterous.
Spurs need to give Ray some run.....Patty gives us some 3pt. shooting.....No thanks....
currently one of the top 10 bargain deals in the NBA..Nope..as if this team isn't starved enough of shooting..
Patty spaces the floor well, knows the system, and the team is automatically better with him on the court. With Duncan and Manu retiring over the next few years, I don't think we can afford a backup PG still learning the system at this time.
I saw him play in person against Denver without Manu. He was a top performer and his shooting made a huge difference. He doesn't need Manu to be a scorer, though he certainly plays best with Manu in the lineup (as does every Spur). That said, you'll hopefully see plenty of Manu and Mills in the playoffs. That's why we won't trade him...he's a stalwart playoff performer and hypothetically Manu will be playing in the playoffs.
Damn I knew Parker's defense has been horrible this year, but 10.3%? He's basically 2015 Playoffs Parker. Who is he going to guard against Golden State?
No one wants Parker's contract now.
I agree that a 12-3 team should be looking to shake things up tbh.
Someone has gone full re .
Unless you are getting a near starter level PG or a rookie with potential upside it doesn´t make any sense to trade away more system players for someone who doesn´t know the system in the middle of the run.
In the preseason it might be an option, but not now.
I don't know anything about Jarret Jack and maybe the Nets would be interested in that trade, but for our side:
Giving up Mills, Anderson and a 1st round pick???
Too much.
That is a trade you make if someone has a season ending injury or something urgent, critical and non-fixable.
Other than that, I have to give you the Pop old speech: the chemistry, character, fit issues.
I read an interview in the paper by Pop concerning Mills when he was up to renew his contract two summers ago. Pop told the press that as long as the Spurs could afford him, we would always keep him, not only because of his shooting and energy off the bench, but because he is such a high character guy in the locker room. Take it as you will. Mills is here to stay. I actually kind of think that the Spurs going after a playmaking forward in Anderson, and another playmaking SG project in Simmons, is Pop anticipating the need to have passers in a bench where Mills is still an important scorer post-Ginobili.
So, bottom line for me, both Mills and Anderson are in our future long term plans. Simmons may or may not turn out as a projected (hopefully he does, bc his athleticism and defense next to Mills and Anderson, plus his slashing and passing would be much welcome). You just look at what Spurs have done, and you can kind of guess where they are going.
Pop just naturally brings guys along slow, that is no knock on Anderson and Simmons at this point. But if we have a season ending injury to someone, that is a different scenario.
Patty is solid and Ray is a better 3rd stringer than CancerJo will ever be. However, the Spurs need to trade Slow got for a 2nd rounder in 2024 and take Boner out back and shoot him in the head with a nail gun.
