Anything else? Yes, Danny once again showed signs of breaking out of his slump. I am convinced that all of Danny's ball handling in the early season is at Pop's command, hoping to expand his game. Tonight Pop may see the light: all the driving is distracting Danny and detracting from his primary purpose: shooting the 3. I think improving the handles a little will help Danny in the long run, but I hope Pop gets him back to just concentrating on the spot-up 3.

Green's 3-point slump is already over, tbh, he's been shooting 40+% the past 10 games or so..we're still waiting on one of his hot stretches where he shoots 60+ % for a few weeks..he's still trying too hard to drive, though, even when it's unnecessary..

He has become a pretty decent passer, so it's fine, once in a while, but those left handed floaters should never be attempted, just hideous..

    Is anyone watching this postgame???

Dude sounds like the shrooms just hit
Not Pop? With his monosyllabic replies, Pop sounded like he was just waiting for one of those pup reporters to give him a chance to bite his head off, chew it up and spit it Aspen.

If the Spurs opt for a vet PG, they better not get a shoot first got like Nelson or Brooks.

Half the crowd here thinks the Spurs are in a "must win now" mode and half think they are rebuilding. I think they have the pieces to win, but that doesn't mean they need to sell their future to get some washed up PG to play backup minutes.
Agree on this. I kind of tend to think we don't make any moves. Pop likes to stay pat anyways. I mean he barely even plays any new guys that he doesn't have to. Premier free agents and free agents who left money on the table aside, Pop is just coaching the younger and less experienced guys to improve, and from there just playing his vets most of the time. I doubt he will trade for a 3rd string PG. We already traded for Ray.

If there are injuries that end someone's season, is the only reason I could see any kind of trade.

His overall shooting % continues to be ty due to his horrid efficiency inside the paint, this year..

Danny needs to dribble the ball well enough to reposition a little when a defender chases him off his spot on the arc. A couple to the left or right or a couple inside the arc. Anything else, he needs to pass the ball.

Danny Green is that guy who Cleveland waived. He's not the superstar Danny Green Finals 3pt record holder. This is his psyche I am referring to. He's still unsure of his freedom on the court to do things except shoot the 3. He's great when he's not the focus on the defense, but when people close out on him (like we want them to), he typically kicks to a post player or around the horn, but lately the new guys have been out of position so Danny gets caught up after his defender closes out and the lane is blocked by someone out of their position. That's when improvisation ensues and the Spurs, like all other teams, aren't that great at improvising. It always looks improvised, but it's choreographed pretty well most times.

He could use an escape dribble like Gary Neal or a shot fake like Marco. His issue is that his percentage drops when he puts the ball on the floor vs. catch & shoot, his rhythm goes out of wack.

Yup. Forgot to review Danny. I agree with you that I think all his driving is sort of by design, bc it has gone on long enough with mixed enough results (more bad to the eye test, but I am not going to judge), for it to not be sanctioned by Pop.

Yup it ends up in him overthinking the stuff, when he should just shoot, unless its clear he's got no shot. Many of the times he chooses to drive, he could have shot it, that is why even though he's come out of his slump, it doesn't look good or doesn't meet our eye test I think.

Unless one of our guys sustains an injury, we will stand pat. I'm thinking one more new guy would feel like chaos to Pop.

I am very encouraged tonight by Simmons. He still hasn't figured out when to go to the hole aggressively and when that will get him into trouble. BUT, he showed much improved judgment. And he showed more confidence; he thought he belonged on the floor playing against the Nuggets, instead of being excited to be in the NBA. I think with some help from Manu, this guy might make it now. I think Pop must be pleased with his progress, too, making a move for another wing even less likely. Pop may also think that the team has enough ball-handling (actual and potential) among Patty, Kyle, Simmons and even Ray that we could weather short storms without Tony or Manu. IMHO.

Looks like McCallum is finished.... he's too small to guard anyone and his offense is shot!

It is bad enough that Spurs have Parker and Mills who also can't guard anyone.
Ray is just an insurance for Patty, he isn't CoJo's replacement. Pop might be trying to groom Simmons to fill the void left by CoJo as a defensive minded big/athletic guard on a poor man's budget.

Yes, that's why I think Pop has had him doing all of the driving. That takes him way out of his comfort zone. By contrast, when he has to take one or two dribbles to reset that's going to feel way more comfortable. That's the Pop-psychology I think.

If people think that Danny has been putting the ball on the floor with the disastrous results he has had without Pop's being behind it, I don't think they know Pop very well. It has clearly been by Pop's design, else he would have been chewing on Danny and showing him the end of the bench.

I am really really excited about the potential for a Patty/Simmons/Kyle future. What Kyle really is we don't know. He's slim for a 4, and yet that is where he has served us best. He has good anticipation and timing on defense. So overall, we don't know how they will fit, but Simmons/Kyle were terrific together not just in SL, but in the Dleague, next to Cotton a shooting PG much like MIlls. Simmons can for sure pass, and I think with playtime would get better. I think Kyle too.

You can clearly see where they both still hesitate when they both had moments they could have made moves. Pop is so strict. You see him call Kyle out for taking a bad shot. You see how Simmons drives still end up in TO, so it makes guys hesitate, but in games like this you also see flashes.

I am encouraged by them, truly. Maybe too much carried away. But its just I keep in perspective how little play time these guys get and how strict Pop is. It was a very good game from them all considered.

Don't think these will come at a sell the future cost. I'm talking cutting someone and signing a vet, or worst case trading McCallum and salaries like Bonner to make numbers work. Looking at who's out there though, there really aren't any guys I'm that intrigued by who aren't 100 years old / aren't chuckers.
