    "unsung"

There was a good thread regarding the Secondary Assist.

The more important assist is the Tertiary.

Being the guy that sees 2 moves ahead and can pass to the PG knowing that the PG isn't going to dribble dribble shoot. But instead put that PG in a position to make a great Secondary Assist.

I'd love to see the league stats on who leads in that category for the Spurs.

Entering the offense can be a tertiary assist, so the NBA might need the NSA data warehouse for that.

A tertiary assist is when a guy gets credit for not putting the ball on the floor.

"Danny Green misses his 3P shot, but at least he gets a tertiary assist."

this thread belongs in a tertiary forum
you belong in a tertiary forum.

    which is better?

    seeing ahead 3 moves?
    or just 2.

I say it's much harder to understand when the guy you pass to will make the right decision and make the secondary assist. As opposed to dribble dribble shoot. Or dribble turnover.
The secondary assist guy is merely a middleman.
The Tertiary assist guy is a master planner.

What about the guy that sees the ball going in before it's even inbounded on the other side of the court?

That's reflected in IFG% - Imagined Field Goal Percentage. It's always somewhat lower than ITS% (Imagined True Shooting Percentage), because some guys envision more 3-pointers than others.

For every rebound, Duncan probably sets 2-3 screens.

Would have a horrible s/n ratio. There's no real way of knowing without also looking at who <insert player> likes to pass to and who that player likes to pass through. I'd guess if you control variables then this won't be statistically significant

this thread kind of fell apart. but my guess is that Manu would lead in Tertiary Assists. or Intentional Tertiary Assists.
