I don't see Simmons back in the dleague. He was there for 2years already and we have better coaches. I love Anderson and sad to say for him perhaps Simmons is a better fit for the bench as they are right now, because they lack athleticism. Anderson is much younger than Simmons and still finding his game. Simmons can play right now. Despite whatever he still has to work on, he has NBA level talent and athleticism.

I do love Anderson's use of his length and size on defense but he has to shoot more 3s and be more aggressive with his shots, unless he gets stopped, then pass.

Simmons can pass really well too.

It will be exciting to see them develop and I hope Pop doesn't leave them glued to the bench. It really irks me when Pop doesn't try different guys when we are losing. You never know who is going to have the energy to turn the tide.

Simmons said his whole mission tonight was earning trust with Popovich. Did a good job off the bench: 8 pts, reb, 2 asts #Spurs

I can't believe they only credited one block to Anderson. I swear he makes more defensive plays in games than the scoreboard reflects.
Yeah, right now his value at the defensive end is much higher than his value at the offensive end. Like you, I hope he becomes a little more aggressive on O. It's the only way he will progress.

Yeah, but then he just gets garbage time play. I wish Pop would give Ray a couple of minutes with the regular rotation players, as he has gradually done with Simmons. In fact, to this point Pop looks like he has handled Simmons masterfully, finding the perfect situations to pair him with Kawhi and give him meaningful minutes with the regular rotation players. That's what he also did earlier with Kyle, to Kyle's benefit. After the last stretch of 3-4 games when Simmons has shown real improvement, it will be interesting to see whether he or Kyle gets into games first. Likely depends on opponent. We might be watching the nascent careers of a couple of long-term Spurs! Getting back to Ray, Pop seems to be getting the deep bench guys up to speed on a staggered basis. Ray's time may yet come, say, in January. We fans are a lot less patient than Pop!
I agree with you completely. I rewatched some sections of the Denver game that Ray played at (it was really only 3 mins of non garbage time) and he was very good defensively, but he was completely lost on our offensive sets and he seemed like he couldn't get guys in their right spots or get the ball where it needed to go. He's probably very athletic and good defensively too, for his position much like Simmons and he can shoot the 3, but the PG is really important to initiate the offense and it seems like Ray is really nit familiar enough with our sets for Pop to play him. It doesn't mean he can't play.

Simmons to.e in the dleague did him wonders. You can tell he knows the offense and the spots he's supposed to go and he can find his guys.

Simmons playing very well, he was killing the Bucks defense on penetrations, that's when the bench had some of it's best ball movement. Love to see a slasher like Simmons playing next to Leonard, they can work very well off each other on offense. Continues to make the correct decisions when passing, knows where guys are going to be.

Gambles a bit too much on defense, and can get lost, but overall his defense was better than time he played. It's gonna be tough getting minutes out there, don't know how big of a role he can have this year.

Also, Simmons came in the league at 195? Read he's now in the 205 range, put on 10lbs so far, gotta continue to fill out his body.

Lol I have always liked Simmons. It's just that unlike you I also like Anderson and he was getting too much flame on here when he can play as well ... It sort of made me a champion to his cause.

But I have always liked Simmons too. Notice that they are not mutually exclusive. Lol

When RC signed the guy, singing his praises, I did not expect to see Ray spending time in Austin, but maybe that's what he needs, too.

He might just sit Manu against Memphis, which is normally a more physical team... we'll see
We won the last Memphis game without Aldridge and with some small ball from Anderson. We now have Aldridge and a much more confident Simmons, which maybe Pop wants to see on the defensive end.

I think they always knew he could score, he's really athletic and they had seen that.

Can they afford to sub him for Danny or Manu in non-garbage time is what Pop probably wants to know? Is he reliable on defense? Is he going to make good decisions when Gasol is in the paint and we are not running over teams?

Still much to find out about Simmons and I do wish that Pop gives him some time. We might even see him over Anderson because like sasaint mentioned, Pop will probably go by matchups and hopefully will be testing him much like he's done Anderson to find out what he really can do defensively.

Should be a really exciting game. I do wonder if we'll see Manu, and I think we will. He really only played 12 minutes.

It depends on the matchup. This game Simmons and Green were on Middleton and they couldn't stop him. Pop then put KA on Middleton and put a stop to his game. KA didn't score much but had 3 assists and 5 rebounds.

Spurs will need both to do well, but as you say, it will depend on matchups. Good to have the luxury of having another decent perimeter defender aside from KL and Green.

I think so far Ray has been a disappointment. He's got the talent, but the problem may be that he can't read the defense.

If you watch Simmons, he made a lot of good passes. The other plus is that he makes the passes when he penetrates, so he's got this uncanny skill that even when he slashes he still is able to make a good pass to open guys.

He's so good that the problem here is that he thinks he should have the ball. I think he'll do better if he's the second option in the offense. Penetrate and dish to break up the defensive alignments.

He had 3 steals... his length is disruptive, even against a long team like the Bucks. You can't teach length.

In offense, he's like Diaw, doesn't want to score. A little more urgency in his offensive game will do well. But he plays conservative because pop wants him to play conservatively.

I think that synergy is a huge positive for Simmons ("Wow, the team's best player/all-star is looking for me!"). But it is also a fantastic sign of Kawhi's growth, now into mentoring the new guys. THAT really excites me.
The KL & Simmons can be deadly. The way KL posts up, he does so in a way that he still has options to pass. However his passes aren't the kinds that go across the court, but rather shorter ones. Simmons gives KL a release valve to pass to him if he cuts at the same time. Simmons in motion is very difficult to stop, furthermore he can finish in traffic.
