After shooting 7 of 9 on threes tonight against Memphis, Kawhi is the new leader in 3 pt fg% tonight! His total is now 39 of 78 for a whopping 50%! I love how this facet of his game has developed. I never would have guessed he would be so consistent at the three. Thank god for this to offset the disappearance of Danny Green's shot. Let's hope he keeps this up!

Don't expect it to hold up (I remember Parker led the league in 3P% for a while last year too), but it'd be great if he could continue shooting 40% from deep. This team really needs it, especially with Green and Mills struggling.

edit: to clarify, I don't expect him to continue shooting 45+% from 3. I think 40% is attainable though.

Its great to see Kawhi become a good three point shooter but let's not kid ourselves, Curry is still the best pure three point shooter the NBA has ever seen.

I certainly don't expect him to stay at 50%. But I'm optimistic that he might be able to keep it at 40-45%.

No way I'm comparing him to Curry. He's absolutely ridiculous right now. It's amazing.

Just loving the efficiency Kawhi is bringing on a part of his game that was criticized at the beginning of his career.

Curry has made over 100 3's at like 45%.

While I agree that 45%+ probably isn't sustainable for any player not named Steph Curry....comparing this start to Parker's 14-15 streak doesn't seem very apropos.

Parker shot .427 last season on 89 attempts in 68 games, or 1.3 attempts a game. He also trailed off in the second half of the season, which happens a lot faster when you put up just over one shot a game.

Kawhi is shooting .500 on 78 attempts in 20 games so far, or 3.9 attempts per game. Gives him a substantially larger margin for error.

Also, for all the talk of Mills "struggling", the Tazmanian Devil is still shooting .408 from deep on the season (not counting tonight) which is still pretty damn good. I think we are all just so used to everything he throws up finding the bottom that his misses seem to stand out more.

I really don't get the "Mills is struggling" angle. It's been mentioned few times here in ST but he seems to past the eye-test, and the fg% as you said. Not to mention the spark and energy he brings coming off the bench.

Good point Dex. Tony was also hitting the opportunistic open threes. Kawhi has been hitting threes with defenders in front of him.

It probably won't hold up, but the fact that Kawhi is even in this position in the first place is pretty unbelievable and a tremendous credit to his work ethic, as well as Chip Engelland and the Spurs staff for working with him on his shot. The major weakness on Kawhi's scouting report coming into the league was his jump shot and it was the reason a lot of teams passed on him in the draft. They thought he'd never be anything more than your typical NBA athletic wing defender. The fact that he's one of the best 3-point shooters in the NBA right now speaks volumes about him, his work ethic, and the ability of the Spurs' coaching staff to work with him to improve it over the years.

Still, it doesn't explain why the other scrub is shooting under 31% as Pop has said many times before, the player I'm referring to is pretty worthless if he can't make his shots, he's worse at driving to the rim than Tony Allen seriously. Shot well for a few years, got paid, becomes himself again. Well, ask Eagles fans what they think about DeMarco Murray this year and they'll say similar things.

Had the chance to speak with Chip, Kawhi's worth ethic is really up there, it's not bull . Chip really only did some work when Kawhi came into the league, from then on it was on Kawhi if he were to really improve. He mentioned them having routine drills before every game but the bulk of the improvement relies on the player.

I wonder if they were just in practice, with no defense, who'd win a 3 point shoot out: Kawhi, Patty, Danny, or Bonner? But so far the ability to make a contested 3 its got to be Kawhi handsdown. Sure a lot of his shots are wide open, but he's also hit quite a few with a hand in his face.

It's the offense. He isn't getting the wide open looks he used to.

I'd pick Bonner, except for the fact he might lose if there's any time constraints.

I just love that the reigning DPOY just hit 7 3's in a game. That's almost unfair.

He also gets more space because he is liable to drive it in for a slam and add that he has length nba=fcked.
