No doubt in my mind Sabonis would have been an all time great big man if he hadn't come into the nba so late
If I recall, he was close to retirement age.

Checked Wikipedia, he was around 31.

How old was Sabonis when he played in the NBA?

Marjanovic is 27, he has room to improve his game. I want to start seeing 3pt shooting from him. That would be unblockable!
seriously man... how about him working on pick and roll D and transition D instead?

Transition D? I don't think he's capable of that! Pick and Roll D, maybe he might be adequate, but he's not going to be able to defend the shooter in the perimeter.

Let's be realistic here. The guy could be very good in offense, but a liability defending the perimeter.

If he were defending guys who you leave open on the perimeter... centers like De Andre Jordan, Dwight Howard, Andrew Bogut, then he'll do fine!

we all know that, but there are many levels of transition D, not just danny green level. Knowing when to foul someone, being smart with sets and screens, not getting 3 second violations, playing into the role and so on. All these are way more important than him shooting threes for s sake.

I like him overall, but at KL2 claiming he's better than Sabonis.

Even no knees Sabonis was on another level of coordination than Boban.

That dribble-drive finger roll at :27

A lot fo that looks like precision execution not physical athleticism. His moves around the triangle are almost robotic in excution. I was expecting him to finish at the rim not pull up more than 2 steps away from defenders. That was 2-3 dribbles in no traffic where he pulled up before trouble. That is smart not athletic as he never put his head down and really ran likely cause he couldn't with those knees.

I'm not saying that Boban can even rep to that polish but I don't see an uber athletic big in that video.

If Boban is an eighth of the player an old Sabonis was we'll have a nice little player.

You're not going to see a lot of 7'3" bigs do that. I mean, look how loppy Roy Hibbert looks. Porzingis is this only 7'3"+ big I've seen who can match Sabonis's fluidity.

Take short precision steps? I've seen Sabonis over in Europe when he was as you describe. He just had a work ethic to go a long with it. When you rep motions 10,000 times it starts to look like he moves. I'm not going to argue that he didn't still have great touch but I don't think he looked all that quick in that video with precision execution. I've seen plenty of 7 footers, I get the relative ability point you are trying to make. Fat Gasol is quicker and better quick twitch which Sabonis had very little.

If nothing else Boban can bend his knees and move laterally a TON better.

    Are we talking Blazers' Sabonis?

Because prime Sabonis had much better lateral quickness and leaping ability than Boban. I don't care to compare to Gasol since there's a 4" difference there. I'm talking about about "super 7 footers," 7'2" and above.

Watch Sabonis pull up for the jumper at 1:34. If you just glanced, you'd swear that's a guard/wing. Only Porzingis has that in his game out of all the super 7 footers I've seen. And watch his put back at 1:26. Boban doesn't have anything like that in his game nor does he have the quick leaping ability that Sabonis showed in his shotblocking in the vid.

I'm talking about the guy taking short steps in the video cause his knees were shredded. Boban has pretty good flexibility I think. He does a good job turning his hips when the defender crosses over too. I compare that to Baynes who would fall down at times at a much smaller frame trying to do that.

I think ultimately I agree with what your trying to say though. Sabonis had world class touch, timing, and court vision. Only one on the roster that compares in that regard is 21

tbh the _efense was non existent in that game. Errors would've put up 10 points against that kind of defense.

Not only the shot 16/18, his dunk also broke the rim:

No wonder the Spurs had to recall him. D-league can't tolerate this kind of damage.

Won't be long until he breaks the rotation. Has height and great fundamentals. Can also run the floor (unlike Sim Bhullar).

Sabonis isn't a fair comparison. I think Boban is more like a larger Alexis Ajinca. Maybe slower, but bigger and more skilled.

Can't wait to see this dude develop. Being able to slot him into the 2nd unit alongside a West or Diaw would really help our bench.

Sweet Jesus. This Boban fool had the road crowd giving him ovations every time he touched the ball in the fourth quarter. I've never seen anything like that for a Spurs player.

We have all been BOBAN-tized tonight!

Yeah that was awesome to witness...

Boban had the ball on the low block....then passed out to somebody (I can't remember who) at the 3 point line.

You could hear the boo-birds from the crowd

8-10 shooting.... that's 80%. He was fouled on one of them. Not bad percentages.
