This is the only really compe ive contest between the two teams. Spurs have the better record, better stats across the board, but the lakers will have a much higher draft pick, so that's probably a wash.

But a real compe ion involves whether Kawhi or Kobe gets into the ASG. One is an aging legacy selection who could be carried in my the nostalgia of casual fans, coaches, or players. Basically where there is stupidity and ignorance there are modern kobe fans who think he deserves an asg pick.

The other is a young up and coming monster two way player with a reserved personality. Loved by stat geeks, fans of solid defense, autistic boys, and generally smart people.

Of course they could both get in.

The only way for Kobe to get in is with the fan vote. Personally, I'm 50/50 with voting for him, but a lot of fans will do because they want him to start in one last ASG

This is where i think we'll find out who silver is, based on how he handles this. On one hand, the ASG is about entertainment and Kobe would bring the show. On the other hand it's pretty embarrassing for the league to reward blatant tanking.

I've speculated that Kobe is taking better shots lately to help make an ASG pick less embarrassing, but it could also be because league owners or the commish told LA to stop being so obv in their tanking. The league has no interest in helping Hinkie get another pick, but it also can't let LA look like joke.

It has nothing to do with Silver. Its a fan vote. The fans love Kobe so we know how this will play out.

Og Stern would've told Kobe.... You want ping pong balls to go your way? Then stay home.......

Actually Stern would have loved Kobe's antics this year.

Basically, if silver wants the league to be about team basketball, if they don't want Kobe pushing his hero/villian crap, or just want Curry not to be upstaged by the old bag, then he can bar Kobe from the game by.....

Fixing the all star votes, forcing Kobe to take his "injury", tell ESPN to black out Kobe from highlights (or lowlights).

When Marc jackson was covering the game he said Kobe 100% deserved the asg spot. When they pressed him to address the opposite view (Marc said Kobe deserves the spot over Leonard and PG based on play, van gundy was fine with the legacy selection) he stammered into jibberish. On one hand, that's typical Marc jackson, on the other it sounds like someone who may have been told what to say without thinking through typical follow up questions. Basically he sounded like a liar.

But that was one in a few media reports about Kobe in the asg. Now maybe it's just a normal thing to talk about controversial asg nominees, but maybe also Kobe, the league, or someone, is trying to establish the meme that Kobe deserves an asg spot and that a selection of Kobe over kawhi is not a travesty of a process that could leave of the reigning dpoy out.

I'll admit.... This is a conspiracy theory I have. But Kobe is a known manipulater. I would know. Like recognizes like.

Kobe as a all star this year? He deserves it . Having led his team to 3 wins this
year has to be a all star for leading that group of misfits that the 76rs beat.
Also he is the all time NBA shot taker of all time. "The Black Mamba," maybe
the "the Black Hole" would be better......

Kobe deserves it. He saved, single handed, Brett Brown's coaching job.

If Kobe doesn't get in as a starter, he will be in as an injury reserve.

At firs I liked the SvG idea of creating a extra roster spot for Kobe. Problem is, that they'd have to create one for KG as well...

Kawhi will be there. That is a lock. Kobe deserves to be in for a life time achievement award much like a New York Mets' Willie Mays was his final year when he was hitting below .200. It should be an extra spot. KG doesn't have the same quality career as Kobe. If you needed to add 2 spots who would really care? If you leave Garnett off I doubt there would be much said, except maybe: "Mother F-----! How do they put Mother F------ Kobe in and f------ leave me the f--- out?"

No he still doesn't deserve it if that's the case you might as well include Duncan,KG. The only time I gave someone a pass for getting a charity all-star selection by the fans was Magic Johnson in '92 and that was because at the time everybody thought he was going to die of AIDS.
